SilicaRich's Overland TJ Rubicon Build

Officially ordered my OME lift for the Jeep. Instead of the typical HD TJ springs, the guy I ordered from hooked me up LJ springs to accommodate the extra weight added and future weight to be added (I previously mentioned they were ZJ springs which was incorrect. Apparently the rear LJ springs are the equivalence of the ZJ front coils).

Also about to order a Front Runner Jerry Can for a snugger fit on my roof mounted Front Runner Jerry Can mount. Currently working out a deal for some stock control arms to replace my crap Pro Comp ones currently. Plan on returning back to Texas on Thursday and maybe trying to find an old style aviator helmet with the goggles to wear for Go Topless Day this Saturday. It's not exactly Jeep build related, I just thought it would be humorous.

Nice man!

Received my first of many packages today for my lift. It was only the new bump stops, but it has me excited that the Jeep is getting a fresh suspension.

On a sadder note, my Go Topless Day is looking a little muggy and may prevent me from enjoying actually going topless. We are looking at a 40% chance of rain Saturday but fingers crossed it gets pushed back or comes tomorrow.

The lift is in!

Officially have all the pieces in for the OME lift!

Only thing I still need is some stock control arms at which I already have a guy fairly local selling a used set for $25. Once I get them, I'll strip them of the old bushings and replace with some new ones... of course I figure I should paint and personalize the control arms before installing. Give a bit of a custom look. Thinking about doing a base black coat, then making a camo pattern composed of orange, grey, the black, and maybe a white.

Also Go Topless Day was a blast. Wasn't able to find a retro aviator cap but found a gas mask for $30 which I happily bought. Made a lot people laugh that day with plenty of people posing for pics with me but also had a ton people wondering what I was smoking in the mask. I didn't think that part through but I assure you that nothing was being smokedSnapchat-1881591881879954481.jpgSnapchat-579492533829088447.jpg

Well I'm sad to say that progress isn't going to happen anytime soon. I was hoping to start installing the lift this weekend, however, I had surgery yesterday and recovery is going to take longer than I would have liked. Looking at not getting around to installing the lift for another 2 weeks at minimum

Forgot to mention that before my surgery, I managed to pick up a used set of stock lower control arms to use with the new lift. The bushings currently on the control arms look like they are in decent shape so I debating whether or not I should replace the bushings yet. I'll take a few photos of the control arms and let yall decide. I assume I should look for dry rotting and cracking

Dry rot-cracking-or overly hardened rubber.

If you replace, keep in mind that polyurethane will squeak probably...I know mine do and it drives me crazy sometimes. Lithium grease helps for awhile. If you spray lithium grease, do it in a parking lot or something so you don't get it all over your driveway :p

If I were to replace them, I was going to replace with rubber anyways. I hear the poly bushings are a pain to deal with. Hear are the bushings on either end of the control arms. A few look fine but I might just replace them anyways so I don't have to pull them off in a year or so later. What do yall think?

Okay I don't know why that screwed up. Didn't mean to post the same pic twice. Meant to post the other side the control arms too

Lift Installation Has Begun

Finally got around to installing the OME lift today, with a late start however. I did not finish the installation, but a good 3 hours of dedicated work tomorrow should do the trick, not including an alignment that will be needed when it's all said and done.

Front shocks, coils, and stock control arms are all installed, going to install the front JKS discos last since they seem the simplest yet have the most pieces. Front JKS track bar still needs to be done, rear track bar has begun with the passenger rear coil being put on hold. That's partially because of how much of a hassle it is to disconnect the rear track bar once the coil is in.

Side note: Decided to not bother changing the bushings on the control arms. From what I hear, the process is a pain and for the hassle and price it's much easier to just buy a new set for a $100. My bushings look like they still have life in them, so I greased them up good and I'm hoping for the best. All I'm asking is that they get me through 2 years.

And for some entertainment here are some photos

The 5100s I installed two years ago. Plenty of life left in them and should still sell for a tarnished penny

OME Lift Complete!

So when I said what was left would take 3 hours of dedicated work? Scratch that and never trust the time I say something will take, just know it'll get done:)

Well the lift is now complete and yes the remainder clearly took longer than 3 hours. Only things that still need to be done is a realignment of the front and rear axles, both are offset an inch or so, and realign my steering wheel where it actually matches the direction of my tires. Currently have to turn the steering wheel 45 degrees clockwise to keep the the Jeep straight. I have some photos but they aren't the best so I'll post up from fresh ones tomorrow once I get the alignment done.:victory:

You can straighten the steering wheel yourself very easily! Looks good, enjoy it!
Thanks!

That's what I figured. It's just the two end bolts on the drag link I believe. I plan to do that after the alignment but think I may be able to get the place I'm taking it to do it as part of the alignment with no extra charge.
