Simple kind of van, a 2006 e150 build thread.

Yeah the 9.75 ford rear end still 5 lug, much like the Ford Expedition. I can also put a D60 rear and change the outer axle bearings/flanges to standard ford, and still retain my factory back plates/brakes.

I'll cross that bridge when we get there. I just had this one gone thru, swapped from 3.55 to 4.10's put in a LSD, new bearings etc etc

Oh I didn't know that about a 60 swap, If you just had your 8.8 gone through I wouldn't worry either :smiley_drive:

Yeah, you can take any d60 housing, cut the tubes to length or have new tubes installed, weld on spring pads, change the bearing ends to late model ford, and run my current brakes. If I'd have thought about it before going thru the 8.8, I would have, but I didn't think about going that route til about 3 days after DOH!

removed the "vanrug" from the van, removed the passenger side threshold. getting ready to do the floor (gotta start somewhere)

ground off the rivets holding the spare tire tools/jack and mount, removed that stuff.

picked up 2 sheets of 4x10 ACX grade plywood from the local lumber yard, a real lumber yard, not home depot, lowes, menards, etc, all these guys sell is wood. if youre in Orange County, CA Strata forest products is the place. didnt take any pics tho, so you'll have to take my word for it.

got the passenger side profile cut, used the van rug as a template. worked great, but came up a bit short in the rear, by about an inch, oh well, we can work with that.

got the driver side cut, had to make a couple extra jigsaw cuts to make it fit as nice as i wanted, and placed it in the van. we then put the drivers side one back in, on top of the passenger side, and pushed it down and marked a line.

took it out and cut to the line on the table saw, no pics of this step, a 4x10 sheet is hard enough to deal with without taking pics. installed both pieces in the van to check fit..... like a glove.

threw down 2 quick coats of KILZ on the bottom side, and hightailed it to Los Angeles to go to "LINOLEUM CITY" combed thru their stock, their remnants, loncoin, congoleum, lonseal, and every other variation of linoleum and vinyl type floors. ended up with a lonseal commercial vinyl floor, guy said its "indestructible" got a remnant piece 6'x11' so plenty to do my RB van. will install tomorrow. loving the funky green

heres the freshly KILZ'd floor pieces,

put holes for KREG pocket screws in the edges where the pieces will join together, this little Kreg jig (about $100) is WELL worth the money, we probably have run 1000+ screws thru this jig, between the vintage trailer build, and just getting going on this build.

laid the flooring on top of the wood panels, and started cutting to fit.

got the floor wood installed in the van, 20+ pocket screws holding the seam together,

did a test fit of the flooring into the van, fits well, peeled the back section forward and glued it down with vinyl floor adhesive. then pulled the front backwards, and repeated, took darn near a gallon of the adhesive, and put it down, and rolled it as smooth as we could get it.

Man. Bummer. I saw it in the 'Found Vans' section and someone said $11K was a huge gigantic deal. (turns out it was philos) I wondered why. So I read your whole thread tonight, and yeah, $11K is a steal.

Some really cool ideas here, stuff I haven't seen on any of the forums. Like your first bed design; that was a slick way to create space in an RB and it could be made to work if you wanted it to. And that Roxul. What is that? Haven't seen any mention of it on anyone else's van.

Not to mention your execution. I marvel at people with skills like you.

The person who's looking for an E150 right now and gets yours is gonna be stoked. Usually they're beat to hell. Yours is better than new.

roxul is a rock wool fire retardant/sound insulation its not fiberglass based and its anti mold/mildew as well as you can take a torch to it with minimal damage.

Oh sweet. I can grow in the wall cavities of my van!

I checked out the Roxul site. Super not intuitive. Do you have a link to which of their products you used?

It's just regular house insulation but way better than the pink fiberglass.

I too have used it in almost all of my builds and it works great at damping the noise, insulating heat/cold while not being affected by moisture. It's also very easy to cut and shape.

I like your wall panelings (and the rest of your van), never really seen those before.

Good luck with the sale, shouldn't last long!

Cheers

i dont partake in "weed festivities" any more, but sure, grow away.

as for which product, its from Home depot, called "safe and sound" it doesnt give an R value, but it definitely helps, the doors now thud instead of ring when closed, and its much much quieter inside.

Wow, that's a lot of blood, sweat and tears you put into that baby. Good luck with the sale.

Can you tell me a little more about whatever that product is you used for the walls? It looks very durable and well insulated.
