Simple kind of van, a 2006 e150 build thread.

ive been asked by a few people for measurements from the bump stop to the I beam after my lift.

I have 5" of clearance from the bump stop tip, to the I beam. I have no idea what it was before, but it had to be less than 2".

I have a 2006 e150, so its lighter duty than the 2008 and later, which may start out higher due to the 3/4 ton suspension/axles under them.

heres a few pics, sorry for the crap photos, hard to hold a ruler, a phone, etc etc and slide around on the creeper under the van.

one of each front corner, and one of each side leaf spring in the front.

got my van weighed this morning, not sure why really, just kinda wanted to know what it weighed pre interior, and what itll weigh after. none of the "certified scales" were open, so i went to the dump. they weight you before, and after. i pulled up to the before scale ....

"what are you dumping?"
-"nothing, but can you tell me how much my van weighs"
"it won't be certified or anything, but i can write it on a paper"
-"that'll work, just looking for a ball park, before i build inside it"
"you're gunna make a camper thingy"
-"yes"
"cool, heres your weight"

4,860 lbs. 1/2 ton van, 4.6l v8, 4r75e trans, 8.8 rear end, 1/4 tank of fuel.

So how do you like the ride now compared to before? What's the most noticeable change?

Just to clarify you did the 4" full suspension system correct?

Also, how tall is your van? Like roof height!

Love seeing what your doing. I think it's awesome you did all your motor work yourself.

Just as a point of comparison: 1989 E-150 EB with a Sportsmobile Penthouse, 4.9L, C6, 8.8, full tank (18 gal) of gas, no interior to speak of: 1/4" plywood walls with fiberglass insulation and only front seats weighs 5,000 lbs. Most emissions stuff has been removed and no trailer hitch, stock 16" steel wheels and 225/75-16 10 ply tires from an 04 E-150. My GVWR is 6,200 lbs. I have prepared myself for the possible need to upgrade to an 8 lug rear axle and swapping front end to 8 lug brakes to match if my camper buildout and cargo require it.

I only plan on a very minimal weekender type conversion. Going to weigh it between steps, hoping to come in under 600lbs for the conversion.

Just looked at my gvwr, 6700lbs.

Given the fact that I don't tow, and at most this is gunna have a dual sport on a hitch hauler. I should be fine

My E150 had the Sterling 9.something under it, still five lug if you decide you'd like a little extra insurance. The 8.8 is a great rear end but heavier set ups have burned them up. Visually it was a much beefier rear end than the 8.8. My van is a 98 5.4 Mark III conversion, went across the scales at 5700 with full conversion van interior and stock suspension.

Edit: haven't gotten it weighed post conversion but I did swap a D60 rear in with the 4wd conversion

Yeah the 9.75 ford rear end still 5 lug, much like the Ford Expedition. I can also put a D60 rear and change the outer axle bearings/flanges to standard ford, and still retain my factory back plates/brakes.

I'll cross that bridge when we get there. I just had this one gone thru, swapped from 3.55 to 4.10's put in a LSD, new bearings etc etc
