Snorkel

I have a Mantec snorkel and was curious what others had done to seal up the truck. I.e. the holes at the bottom of the air box and ECU.

silicon is your friend in both cases but Lucky 8 does some sort of super secret epoxy over an ECU to protect it from water.
Is the secret epoxy that stuff that you simply spray over the ECU? I think it was shown on Dweb a while ago and originally used for cleaning guns.

I used black silicon for the air box.
I'm guessing you haven't had trouble with the silicon melting?

Jeff,

does your airbox get hot? i seem to remember in the summer, after running it hard all day long offroad, my airbox was never "hot" while under those conditions. i could touch it at least and it never seemed much hotter than the ambient 90+ degree weather. i don't think you're have a problem...

Good point. I guess it is always sucking in cooler air. I was just thinking it would melt after I had a P.A. speaker melt on me.

hmm...well you can do it now and look again in the summer when it's hot. although i'm wearing flip flops down here in auburn right now, where you live and drive should be colder until march or april. you'll be fine with some black silicone in there.

I have the Mantec "wading kit" this consists of extensions for all the breathers (except the rear axle) for the front axle, trans, and transfer case.
The breathers run up the backside of the snorkle tube and terminate up under the mushroom cap. The idea is that when these warm parts hit cold water a vacuum is created and water actually gets pulled in.

The Rover "dump valve" as they call the rubber thing on the filter canister is crap. Mine is removed and the hole is welded up.

I love driving in deep water. Its a wild sensation when you drive into deep water and loose traction for a moment untill the truck sinks to the bottom and grabs again (pucker factor). Here's a short clip from a dip I took last Feb.
I actually did it twice (photo op) the first time I took a deeper route and had the hood/bonnet completely submerged.
