Lots of gear at the Denver store. Just spotted the field oven. IGT tables are sporting "made in China", not sure if that's new. Also saw the Jikaro, double burner and a bunch of inserts.
I guess that begs two questions how is it more complex and what one means by pricier?
(TRUST me I'm by no means a snob; hopefully this doesn't come off that way) I am by NO means knocking any other manufacturers....
It's almost like comparing Snow Peak gear to Coleman.... Coleman is good but Snow Peak is better (to us). Some people are fine with an off the rack suit from Mens Warehouse, some will settle for nothing less than a custom tailored bespoke suit. Some folks are fine with an off the shelf no-brand-name knoife, others HAVE to have a Lt Wright/ESSE/artisan blade.
Example: The knife/cutting board cases I recently made: 2 layers of quilted cordura material with bound edges, topstitched and 6 stitches per inch; made in the USA with US sourced materials. It's extremely time consuming and labor intensive, but I don't care. I know it works.
I have an EDC bag (jokingly dubbed a man purse) that I made in 1998 and still use every day. I could make a simple single layered-single stitched pouch with an 8-10 stitch per inch sew job just to crank out a $hit ton and make more money.... BUT I'm a one-man show (with a penchant for superior quality stuff / gear dork) and I've been making bags/etc for about 20 years. That and I'm still a full time active duty Marine.
IF I had my own SP Oven My design would likely be form fitting to the shape of the oven. BUT for now I would just go with standard square dimensions.
By Pricier? $100 shipped with a "surprise inside"

I've seen the grate. It's incredibly heavy and expensive. I've been using a 10" square of perforated stainless sheet in mine.

It weighs next to nothing and served the same purpose. I've cooked over 50 dinners with it and hasn't corroded at all.

As far as size goes I would recommend the LG pit over the medium. For the slight weight penalty it gives you a more cooking area. You also have more options available in regards to mesh grills and pan inserts that only fit the large grill.

Thanks, your example looks great, actually after shipping from Australia the price is pretty much the same, I am in when whenever you can. Talking about the care, time and skill that is put into the things you make, is not a snob to me, it is someone who takes pride in what they do.
From observing this conversation I do not believe your a snob at all. I do have concern when an artisan manufacturer feels the need to justify there items price point.
I have seen it happen so many times on a forum situation. Someone sees a need for a product, they have the skill set and ability to service this.
Although it hasn't happened within this thread, some people chime in asking why things are priced where they are etc. Sometimes even complaining about the product even though they've never bought an item from the seller.
I'm sure the actual cost to the manufacturer is actually a lot higher than the selling price. There is a heck of a lot of time associated with getting materials, R n D, the manufacture and selling / posting that are not always costed into the final selling price.
I think that it's well worth paying for a quality product from a cottage manufacturer. Get behind them to help someone making the effort so they can build their Buisness model, expand their product lines and recoup some of their initial outlay.
It can only be of benefit to all involved.

Yuman, your straps are great! Keep at it, Snow Peak may just come knocking on your door to offer you a design job!
Can you tell me what gauge or thickness you are using?
on the left the latest addition to the 'little lamp nocturne canister cover family' or shall we say LLNCCF
