I wondered about that custom fit unit also :)

here is a brain dump from me and what I was thinking when I was going to do this since I did my magma I had planned on this PS meets SP method !

the handle and latch would have just fit with the stock depth of the unit but again I figured they would just get in the way ! so it might have to be more like my custom order with no latches and no handle !

I had thought of asking them to make me one exactly 19.5 inches long but decided the stock 18 was OK with me and did not mind the extra space ! my reasoning with how hot the charcoal box gets I figure that extra inch space will keep the stove from getting so hot if I am not using it but using the charcoal box only !
now this came after talking to PS about my main use which was with a griddle he said you have to be careful and not cover up the top so much that the area near the knobs get hot as to damage the O rings ? now I dont think the unit touching the Charcoal box would matter ? but did not want to chance that !
I had thought of using a filler on each side of mine and I still might do that ? granted their will be a small gap at the corner of mine ? but again I am OK with that !
and I bought the L channel I needed to make my edge fill in so most likely you will see pics of that in the next week or less !

he did say he could make me one with the gas tube coming off the bottom ! which would be nice so you could put the charcoal box on either side ? but for sure you are never going to use it on a table and want that double duty when I asked about the front like the small hinged model he said cant do cause of something the way they do the front of them and the knob shielding compared to the small folding ? but I bet they could with enough units :) the back would be perfect but he said not really doable the way they run the tube also on the bottom it would stick down about 1/8 a inch or so !

I think the Lid/windscreen would be the tricky issue ? and since a plain lid is cheaper :) and I would never use it I opted for the plain lid !
at least for me cant see using it without my IGT ? so for me it would be a lost feature I would not want to pay more for :)
my method I left enough lip for the top to grab lid and just use a strap like the charcoal box !
I think having a lid windscreen you could also use on the IGT would be OK but I am just going to use the SP windscreen and am totally happy with the lid the way it is ? but again I can see some wanting it

the 12 inch depth is about perfect ! if the L channel was welded on or just a channel of some kind you could go up to 12.75 inches and still drop it in as long as nothing like hinges on the front or back of it !
and I had thought of welding it on but if it got bent I like the idea of being able to replace it ? but then again I think welded on wont ever be a issue and would be nice and clean !
also did not want it to be more than 1/8th tall cause I want the ability to drop my cutting board in and have it grab the front and back ! something to think about if ya like that cutting board top idea ? I hate cutting boards that slide around !!!!

the one other way I was going to support my stove was at both ends with a small bar going front to back off each side ! this would be clean and leave the ledge along the front and back open for more secure grip on my cutting board Idea and allow the lid to go back on a bit tighter when stored !
kinda like how this is supported on this page imagine just the U shaped bar or square tupbe being used and bolted on to each side !
my thought was to use 1/4 inch square stainless if I did it that way !
http://asobi-ya.com/products/post_181.html
it could be another way to look at doing it though ? and I still might play with that idea some ? again just not sure if it would be as solid feeling and again I like that filled in look better ! maybe it the stove was a custom 12.75 inches depth I would like it more :)
also it would make the lid fit more secure when not in use ? again not a big deal cause mine stays on fine now and again I like that filled in look better :) hahahaha

also like on that page I for sure did not want some tray thing !!! again one less thing to carry etc.. and really felt this tray type thing is not the answer ;)

hope that brain dump helps :) sorry I cant write well :(

I wonder if Partner Steel would make a custom "perfect fit" (i.e. 2 unit) stove for the IGT at a price similar to their other units--one with a lid that could be detached for the IGT and attached when used separately. If they would, would anyone here be interested? ...and if so, could we get together enough people for a group deal? Would there be any special features that people would suggest in order to make this the ideal set-up?

beside my long winded thoughts :) in quick for you

12.75 inches depth max !
19.5 inches wide !
gas hook up off the back out of the way would be perfect
lid windscreen ? that's a tough one would be cool to have a way to use it out of the IGT but cant see as I ever would and the IGT has a windscreen
so that added cost would be a waste on me and the plain lid is cheaper ! I can see the purpose though and it could be cool just how best to do it ? I am happy with removable top the way mine is though cause I gave it a TON of thought

Thanks for your thoughts. If anybody else is interested, now would be the time to chime in. I will contact Partner Steel in a week or two when I see what the interest level is. It would seem that the dimensions of the SP double stove would be the way to go--I will look those up for comparison.

Cheers,
Greg

Are you guys looking at the Steel partner stove because of bulk gas capacity?
I actually quite like the GS-220. 4-6 canisters will see me through most holidays/treks.

I can give my ideas why the PS stove since I chose this setup and of course cause others love their stoves so much
PS is basically for river raft guides etc.. so the build quality is amazing ! more industrial than SP stuff but you could use the stove as a step ! its that tough recessed knobs etc.. again very well thought out for tough hard daily use and not saying the SP cant handle that ;) dont get me wrong
working on boats in the tourist industry for 15 years it seems stuff that is made for guides or this kind of use really shows how good things can be !
I know many regular brands of stuff when used in these kind of situations are usually a one season or two season item where better stuff lasts for ever
I have two colelman stoves also and decided not to retrofit them into the SP cause of the build quality was not worthy of the IGT :) hahahaha

my stove was $220 so price is also cheaper than SP but more than coleman etc..
I think for many of us the PS is a proven design that has also proved to be kinda like the Toyota LC trucks the reputation of them is second to none
it could be more a proven American stove ? not sure about that like in Japan Uniflame seems to also be very popular along with SP stuff

the gas for me is a issue a 20 lb tank is cheaper than 2 large canisters ! and will last of course insane amounts longer and having more or less one fuel source is nice

my grill is Propane
my hot water heat we sometimes bring is propane
our tent heater we sometimes bring is propane
are gas fire pit which we love is propane

I will still bring my SP titanium back pack stove we use for our espresso kit along so the smaller canisters work for that

I dont plan on getting rid of my Baja Burners ? but might sell one of them ? not sure yet so I will still use that when I need that extra burner
I could have gotten the GS-220 on sale a bit ago for $280 :) which I almost did

if anything I might get a gigapower setup for the 3rd burner so I can have that insane power if I want ? :)

I have a Spressoman adapter that will enable me to use bulk propane on a baja burner--I have not tested it yet, but plan to do so this weekend. The SP two burner stove would require a much more complicated modification to make it work on bulk propane, so I decided against it for that reason. Yes, you can always use disposable cartridges for this, but the cartridges are expensive, have limited availability (not easy to get at a moment's notice in many places), and they commit you to using a fuel source that may not be compatible with other things. Propane is available almost everywhere, is relatively cheap, can be used from a bulk tank to feed numerous different things, and gives peace of mind that you can cook almost forever without worrying you will run out. That is why the Partner stove is more desirable to me.

Greg

That makes a lot of sense guys. In Europe the gas canisters are common and I have an adapter to use another twist lock type so don't have to worry about running out of fuel. I do like the look of the partner stove. Those welds look like they could take a beating. I love the 'lowered' burner setup used by the guy in the Asobi-ya site. The fact you can cover it and get a flat surface in the IGT appeals to me. I also love his basket insert idea. Group buy? :)

I love those baskets and his small tray and cover holder !
Again want a place for my grill cover :)
Just how much to ship from Japan and they are not cheap when you do the Yen exchange sadly to rich for my blood :(

That cutting board I have is close to flush its the same thicknes as the bamboo :)
I was thinking of making the mount lower and having my cutting board a bit more flush but its only 1/8 inch taller ? So not to bad !
The nice thing is it still is close and does not slide around etc...

An old college buddy is married to a Japanese woman, so might be able to arrange shipping, but I can't even figure out the mailform on the site to start up the conversation ......
Good thing I am starting a Japanese language course later this year (level 1 only but still :D)

Look forward to seeing what you all make of the partner stove. Good luck!

I'm making a few BBQ Box grates due to recent interest. PM if interested.View attachment 108356

how much you sell them for ?
anyone you know sold them have reviews ? only read two things on them one said it was not needed the other liked it ?
my thoughts would be would it put the charcoal to close on the top level when its fresher ? or would I be able to have it close on two then move it up when it burns down ?
no doubt its super cool ;)

not sure what capabilities of metal work ya have access to :)
but something like this would be really cool to get made
