Depends... is your Jeep a hill-billy conveyance or a vehicle you could drive to Alaska at the drop of a hat? Former: delete; latter: fix.

Mine has been out since I got about a year ago. I didn't drive it over summer since I was fixing it. Then it was winter. This sucker gets HOT in summer...will definitely be fixing before it gets too hot.

So unless you go doorless and stuff...it's pretty darn convenient to have. It's one of those things you think you can live without (and you can), but sure is NICE!

I converted the A/C pump on my old YJ to on board air. Worked great and easy to do. You need a filter, oiler, fittings, line, tank, disconnects, etc. and you're pretty much set!

If you ever plan to resell it and it is factory air fix it. You will enjoy it when you need it and it can make a huge difference in certain parts of the country when you try to sell it. It may be a minor issue such as a clutch that isn't an expensive repair.

I vote to fix it,, I have portable on board air, slow but it works, and for the long range stuff we do, the a/c is a blessing, however, the 1st thing I did was to install my own kill switch, as the factory on/off switch, proved to be unreliable. :smiley_drive:

You may be able to get by with one of those recharge kits at the local parts store. I think they are like $30.

I had to get the compressor replaced in my XJ, which required a full re-charge and new condenser. It was only like $600 including labor. Well worth it to me.

One of these days I'm going to get around to hooking up a second Sanden compressor beside the A/C one for OBA duty (search NAXJA). In the meantime the ARB electric air compressor was simple to install/hookup.

I can't imagine having an XJ without A/C. The HVAC is marginal plus a little bit when it works up here in the summer humidity. Farther south? The ZJ is the same way?
