So what's the sticker on these J8's?

I'm curious what the price will be on the J8 run that AEV is offering-read about them in OJ. I guess the "component " vehicle designation get's it past the DOT regs on airbags and 5mph bumpers and such so that is a big ?? on final cost but what are the guesses?

The OJ review was good but 50K for an unassembled truck gives some pause. If you source out the assembly I'm guessing that would run another 15-20K. The one featured in OJ with the JK habitat and other mods must be getting about 80K. I could see Jeep offering the engine and some of the other features of the J8 in the JK if this sells out which would bring the price down.

The Overland Journal Review got my attention, but 50K is quite a bit more than I'm willing to spend. However, living in CA where emissions and vehicle code are strict there would be a lot to gain in purchasing a J8.

For something to beat in the mud and slush and just generally abuse, $10K is too much to spend. Auto prices are just a crock anymore.

The price of any new off road vehicle (regardless of brand), the rising cost of fuel plus the expense of bolt-ons is going to put a real crimp in long distance Adventure Touring for all but a few.

if I had the dough I would get the diesel version in a heart beat for is there any other New small capable diesels out there? In reading though I guess I got confused for I did not know $50K was for unassembeld, I have over $60K in my frame off resto on my Toyota BJ42 with as many OEM parts as I could still get but probably doesnt compare to the J8 Diesel? Though I love my BJ42sometimes I wish I had somethiing new especially if it compares in capability and I could have had for what I have into mine? Though I havnt researched this diesel engine?

The unassembled part seems to be the loop hole to even sell this in USA. It will be titled as a component or "kit car" so you get a rolling chassis and drivetrain and everything else needed to be a J8-but you or the shop you choose does the final assembly. AEV has shops listed that will do the work but I'm not sure for how much.

The scuttle I've heard on the VM engine is it's got great low down torque and is very efficient. The one issue I've heard is that the turbo come in a little late and a little strong for offroad but it's great on road.

From what I understand the motor and transmission will basically be plug and play in the J8. The chassis will be fully assembled and 'rolling'. It will not have the motor/trans installed.

You buy these units from an AEV Jeep parts dealer.

The hemi may be a little different, but the diesel is suppose to be a drop in, plug in the wires, fuel lines, fill with fluids, and your done.

The J8 is still on my short list. I thought about installing the motor/trans in the nearest Walmart parking lot with a $200 autozone engine hoist....

That would make a good kick off for the project :)

I'm right there with ya on that project.

I just need to move to a state that doesn't charge registration based on vehicle value before I really manage to grab one of these if they are ever really for sale.

I'm positive its out of my league, but has anyone seen a price for the engine itself?

The last time I got an answer about that Chrysler was being a real PITA about that. You couldn't buy the 2.8 ltr drivetrain without having actually purchasing a J8 as well. They just wouldn't sell it to you.
