Check that FF rear axle!
Notice that they have 5 bolt wheels? The description said they were Cruiser axles, so they might be 78-series axles and if so, might be new, current production (or at least based on them, the housings look pretty custom). I thought it was only Canadian mining companies that used Toyota stuff, I figured US mining companies used Dodge or Ford. Learn something new everyday, eh?

Let's crunch the numbers...

You would have to drive this along time to justify the cost of the diesel...even if the truck new was 35k, that is still a ton of gas that you can buy with the difference...That is a sweet vehicle though...

I think for many of the open pit mining operations the Ford/Chevy/Dodge Heavy Duty trucks are the hot ticket, but for underground the diesel LC 70 series has long been the favorite. Possibly due to the size constraints.

I guess with the crackdown on emissions there are no real options for a factory produced small diesel truck.

Just my speculations. I wonder if they did anything to beef up the non-boxed rear frame?

wow, looks like a huge amount of work and a great idea!!!
as far as the price - looks like a brand new pick-up LC70 in Australia sells for about US$48000 - http://www.toyota.com.au/toyota/vehicle/RangePage/0,5141,4106_1612,00.html , once you add options like lockers, bull-bar, etc., plus shipping and customs I would think it would be around $55000-60000 as well.

I hope that they succeed in the mining business and then perhaps they could go into a business of selling the diesel conversion kit by itself for a reasonable price to general public...

:iagree:

No doubt there would be a market for it. Once my Truck hits the 100K mile warranty limit I would give serious thought to this, provided there was a proven kit to be had.
