Springtail Solutions MOLLE rack type solution for G Wagen?

Hey all-

I am a converted FJ Cruiser owner, and there was one thing in the FJ world that I used all of the time that I cannot seem to find for the G Wagen:

http://store.springtailsolutions.com/FJ-Rear-Door-Combo_p_11.html

The Springtail Solutions rack fastens to the inside of the rear door, allowing for MOLLE compliant bags to be hung. I am a photographer and this was a great solution for me, as I could hang my lens pouches (made by Think Tank) through these slits in the rack.

Does anybody know of something similar for the G Wagen?

I bet that FJ unit will mount right up. The rear door on the G-Wagen is even bigger, and you can actually see out of it (grin).

I take delivery of my 2003 G Wagen in a few more weeks, so I haven't been able to mark up the drill holes yet. I didn't keep the rack when I sold my FJ a few years back, and wish I had done so. At least this is the least expensive mod I am looking at.

(double grin)

Unfortunately, nothing is cheap with the G-Klasse. However, they don't need much (or anything) for serious travel. Install a good set of tires on 16" rims and download your favorite tunes onto the iPhone. . .

Most of the options I am looking at are for organization, RTT and other long term trip tasks. Prepping for a 4 to 6 week trip next summer from Texas to California to the Rockies and back. My two boys are itching to go camping, fishing and see the American West like I saw it when I was about their age (they will be 7 and 9 next summer). I doubt I am going to do any suspension or wheel work for the trip, as I want to maximize mileage as best that I can. Most of our offloading will be of the simple kind, and most of our miles will be on pavement.

Awesome. Start a new thread on your truck when it arrives. I am sure many of us will chime in on ideas for the project. Also happy to help with your trip west. I have been meaning to ping you about our plans to visit Big Bend too. Could be a fun shakedown and we would be honored to have you and your family along. Maybe some of your amazing photography skills will rub off via osmosis (grin)

Oh, I definitely plan on starting my own build thread. It will be more about combined onroad/offroad types of needs, based on a very long loop from Texas to CA, up north to Oregon and then back east to the Rockies and then home again. I am lobbying to turn it into a 2-month trip, as I don't have any safaris planned for June, July and August 2015. Heck, I could do 3 months, but that's stretching it.

I would *love* to meet you guys out in Big Bend. I love that place, although summer can be a bit warm for my taste. October through April or early May are the best months. Just name the time and I will meet you there if I can, as it is about an 8 hour drive for me. Not too terribly bad. Maybe I can show you some photo tricks that Bruce hasn't thrown out yet. haha.

Let mhiscox and I know when you're headed to OR, we'd love to meet up!

Jeremy, would you mind if I contact you offline regarding your own build? I am starting to put pen to paper on what I am planning to do, and would love to bounce some ideas off of you and anybody else who has gone before me.

Please do Andy, I'd be honored!
