Martyn,
Quick question, are you using canvas and if so why? I've seen the kamparoos up close and personal and almost bought one. We had a distributor up here in NE PA.. but what held me back was the canvas. The wife and I both suffer from asthma and canvas seems to have odors and mold grows quickly on it. Would love to see other type fabric used like some that is used in pop-ups or high end tents.
Sorry if this was covered too..

I was using the term canvas to describe a heavy weight tent material in general, not specifically a cotton canvas. We would be looking at a poly-cotton blend or high tech fabric.

The balance is to find a fabric that is breathable but also water resistant. Sunbrella seems to be the choice for many pop up trailers but it's not breathable as it's a coated fabric. The uncoated poly-cottons are breathable and resistant to mold.

My wife was asking about the status of this product last night.

We were talking about a trip to Alaska next summer and she was wondering if they would be available by then.

I see no issues supplying one for your trip.

I do not mean to step on any toes by saying this. However if your trailer is anything close to this:

http://www.kimberleykaravans.com/index.php

Then sign me up for one!!!! I swear I would buy one of those if I could find one in the U.S.A.

Keep us posted

Kimberly Kamper is one of many trailers that uses the clamshell design. So in that respect they will be similar. The AT version will be smaller, lighter, and specifically designed for US conditions. We will use our existing chassis and suspension design.

The "Karavan" link posted points to their hard sided trailer that expands vertically. They are a sweet hard sided trailer but mega bucks, even in Australia. There is nothing like it in the US, at least not on anything like the rugged off road KK frame and suspension. Oh well, once again, most of these cool options are only available outside the US.

I guess three of us do not define a lucrative, large US market.

We will defiantly not be producing a hard sided trailer. The design is not suitable to the US. In an age of increasing fuel costs our goal is to be rugged and light. Just the air drag produced by a trailer like this would cost big $$$

Yep, I agree. I just didn't want anyone to get wraped up in a fantasy thinking something like that was coming.

I can't wait to see your upcoming clamshell. :lurk:

When do you think you will havea prototype that would be representitive of the final product? I'm think we'd like to see a prototype and maybe pre-order a unit.

Well 1 thing is for sure I am 10 days into my Continental Divide Expedition and if Adv Trailers came by with a this new trailer tonight I would trade my fake leg for it!
I really like the build quality of my Hannibal tent and the side awning but after 10 days of daily setup/takedown, and 13 days to go I would pay any price for this new design.
Not to mention the basecamp possibilities and then there is the chance to get some wgt off this fat pig of an FJ Cruiser!

I will be making lots of phone calls, emails and visits very very soon to a certain California trailer maker!!!!

I can't wait!
I want this trailer!
I need this trailer!
My wife agrees after going over the scale with me on our way out of town!
There are many short trips and a Central America trip in the next 6 months that demand this trailer!

If I take a nursing contract near Adv Trailers I could come by and help build it 4 days a week
