Not a mattress story, but Mrs. Roadie took her memory foam pillow (middle-to-high end price range, but could have been imported) and at 45 degrees when we went to bed it was hard to the point you could only make a 1/2" depression in it with your hand. At 34 degrees later, it was laughably hard and she stole mine since I should have reminded her not to take that one.

Reno Mattress Co.
made our custom mattress. It was an inner spring with cotton batting and a funky blue stripe ticking. It was only 4 - 6 inches thick and custom fit the fixed bed in our 1957 Mercury trailer. One of the most comfortable beds I ever slept on.
I'm just saying maybe high tech isn't always better???

Thanks! now one more thing to keep an eye on! any idea on how much weight the cargo rack will handle? Maybe a 250# dirt bike strapped on top??

In one of the posts a matress warmer was mentioned. Check out the following link for a source of 12 VDC matress heaters. IIRC they are used by truck drivers as well as RV'ers.

Electrowarmth

They even have models with dual controls so that each side of the bed can be set to a different temperature. I think that this would be a great addition to the accessory list for any trailer or RTT.

We have the queen size dual control model...left over from when we had the Overland. Although it is nice to be able to only use 1/2 the power when its just me. They draw hefty power...I have found I use it on one of the higher settings, on cold to cool nights, to preheat the bedding. Then turn it down to the lowest or near lowest setting after climbing in depending upon the outside temp for the remainder of the night. It works great with a down comforter...

And to think I used to BC ski tour and camp on snow and ice :sombrero:

x2 Keep it simple and light (<1500 lbs wet)

Yes lets! Some of us don't have big motors or want to spend more on fuel than we have to. So a bed a pull out kitchen/stove/sink, heat, additional fuel/water storage and under 15oo#

Choosing the right memory foam is the issue. There appears to be two main types;

A low density memory foam molds to the shape of the body very fast and is pressure-sensitive.

A high density memory foam reacts to body heat.

We have heard of problems with memory foam turning hard at low temperatures and from our research this would seem to be an result of the foam being made of the high density material.

Reading further on the net there is a discussion that cheap imported memory foam also turns hard at low temperatures.

Anyone had issues with their mattresses at low temperatures?

I have also heard this, memory foam get stiff at cooler temps like in the 40s

What quanitites are you talking about when you say additional fuel and water?

water = 8 #/ gallon
Gas = 6#/gallon

We could get by with 10 gallons of water and 10 gallons of fuel.
So that would be about 140#'s.

Add a shower and you will need more water capacity.

Personally I like my 19-gallon water tank on my Horizon. And the 2-20L Scepter's seem about right...although 4-20L Scepter's would be that much better ;-)

I was thinking accommodations for 4 Jerry cans be it water or fuel, I am not interested in shower facilities so my water needs would be for consumption and cooking only. It could be an integral storage tank for the water and then less Jerry can fuel storage.

I also prefer the 19 gallon water tank as you always have the option to fill it less if you want to save weight. Baffles in it would be nice also but I'm not sure how expensive that would be. As far as fuel storage , on our Chaser I opted to not have any on the trailer. It lessens the tongue and overall weight and then allows me storage for additional bulky light weight items like my EZ Up Awning and camp chairs. I prefer to carry my additional one or two 5 gallon cans on my tow vehicle so I always have them with me. We often set up camp then go out exploring and this way I don't have to transfer a spare can to my truck. As you can see everybody has a different idea of what is best for them. This is why I think it is important to keep the base trailer simple with the option to accessorize it. From a builers standpoint I can see where you would want to standardize the options for cost sake. I would stick with the 19 gallon water tank if room allows since it seems to be a proven option and has more flexiblity than a smaller tank does. Just my .02.

No but I heard a rumor it is going to be lighter than either the Chaser or more especially the Horizon: Proof will be in the putt'n! I can't freak'n wait to: Seeit/towit/buyit/useit :punk03:.

Let's get it on eh?! Maybe if each one us goes to Upland and donates a day each of free labor we can shorten the ETA curve...or possibly lengthen it :Wow1: .

Anyone into an ETA pool? <:^O

Back to the wish list: I may want a full cage :rolleyes:.
