I've always loved the oval stickers with letters in them...
OBX = Outer Banks
YNP = Yosemite National Park
HI = Hatteras Island

I've made a decision that those are the only stickers I'll place on my vehicle, and only from places I've visited. In addition, I'm trying to limit them to my camper shell. That way when the shell isn't on my truck I have deniability that I place stickers on my vehicle. :ylsmoke:

Scott, for what its worth, you are the one who has made me rethink stickers.

I simply love the way you have had all your sponsor stickers made up in the muted grey. The contrast very well with your vehicle. What are typically brazen stickers designed for advertising alone you have turned into tasteful stickers offering more of a description of what has gone in to your vehicle. While your sponsors receive advertising, more than that your truck is something of a walking resume for your work. If I had commercial interest in placing stickers on my vehicle, I would shamelessly copy your idea.

The only product stickers I'd ever place on my vehicle would be for sponsor or self promotion. Otherwise I don't have a problem with the ones for clubs you belong to etc. The only ones I have on my jeep currently are the highway 12 decal (the obx thing was becomming way too popular), a VT Engineering decal, and a 4wd trips decal, mainly because I like the design and the subtle tread-lightly touch. I'm in the process of removing the ghey "sport" and wrangler decals from the side of the jeep. I perfer a cleaner look.

Steekers are okay if they represent your sponsors. Those are the only ones on my truck.

Oh wait, except for the Lesotho flag, the SA Land Rover club and the Lesotho licence plate (whick isn't really a sticker, but is along the same lines.)

Actually I'm in a bit of a dilema. I want to take the Safari Gard stickers off my truck, but I have grown to really like them. The zebras are just cool! But one of these days I will pull them off and do something different. Ditto with Superwinch and Land Rover Flatirons.

I have got a lot of "cool!"s and a lot of nasty stares because of my stickers, and one South african guy at the gate to Kruger Park tried to rip me a new one because of the stickers. He had "kill" in his eyes, it wasn't pleasant!! So I vote 'em down, evethough I have them all over!

When I was in HS there were guys who did a cheap lift on the back of their Chevelle, threw on a set of meets and plastered the rear windows with all the stickers of the stuff they wish they had. Thrush, Hurst, Edelbrock, etc.etc. We called them sticker racers.

The cool guys had all the stuff under the hood and no stickers.

I can understand sponsored rigs with stickers, price of doing business. Plus you know they have the stuff installed on their rigs.

All that said I two stickers on my rig. When I replaced the gas tank on my lawn mower it came with two very small Briggs and Straton Logo stickers. I have one on each side of the hood. :)

If I ever get a paint job on the 40 other than something out of a Krylon can I might put a TLCA sticker on it, more to promote the organization than anything.

Inside the lid of my tool box

I have a few stickers placed on the rear window of my Tundra.

  • In the lower right corner, a small TundraSolutions sticker
  • In the lower left corner, a couple of small Scouting stickers
  • In the top center window, I have a dark grey WPS sticker for Woodlands Performance & Suspension, where I had my lift mods installed.
There were plans to add a Tough Country (my bumper manufacturer) sticker where the WPS sticker is, and put a different WPS sticker on the bottom of the center window, but I can always do that tomorrow, right?

In order to avoid looking like a NASCAR, I put all the stickers I have accumulated from destinations or manufacturers on the inside of my toolbox lid. I still have half of it to go, too. This alone, justifies more journeys!

Of course I voted "Hell yea!" :) I think stickers are fun.
Ah yeah! I recall you used to have a Viva Baja sticker on your old bumper. That's worth saying. :) But I'm not too interested in displaying "Superwinch" or "Brigg and Stratton."

I suppose there are two types of stickers: concrete and abstract. Concrete is the products and manufacturers. Abstract is ideologies, like Viva Baja or My Kid Beat Up Your Kid.

I'm kind of curious about that story . . .

Pray, why? What was wrong with the stickers?

No stickers on my truck. I removed the badges, TRD decals and even the little Thule decals from my roof rack attachments. It looked much cleaner that way.

Mmmm - Just two:
A tiny British flag and a very small Land Rover University badge (attended a couple of their classes).

- as for snorkels; I've thought about them a few times. Always passed. Changing air filters a couple times a year isn't any big deal....

Strange situation. He pulled up behind us in a safari bus and was obviously a tour guide. I came out of the parks office heading for my car. He was standing by the drivers door. I said 'Hi' as I opened the door. his response was something like "That's illegal! What company are you from?!"

I told him I was just an overlander. He didn't take kindly and started yelling about how what I was doing was illegal. I then cottoned on to the fact that he thought I was a tour company as well. I told him the stickers were just sponsors. He didn't buy it and demanded to see my carnet, claiming that I had violated the carnet as well as South African law. I refused to show him the carnet, and language degraded. I couldn't get a word in edgewise. He switched to afrikaans (which I do understand) and said some nasty things about me, my family, Americans and how I was born. He tried to get the parks rangers to keep me out of the park and even to arrest me on the spot. Luckily they ignored him and when I got in and drove, they let me into the park. The guy came screaming past us (speeding in a game park) but didn't stop. Really ruined my day, because I'm not into confrontation, and usually think that reasoned conversation can create understanding.

Horrible. So let that be a warning to you people with stickers on!! :beer:
