Have no idea why I'm on this thread, it said Subaru. Well, I have an old 04 Forester, no turbo, guess it's going to be my adventure vehicle since I'm selling my F-150 (I think) hate to see that go!

A bit off topic I guess, racks to trailer hitches, does the Subby need sway bars for 2500 lb pull being a smaller vehicle? I believe that is the rating for the car, I just don't want the tail to wag the dog. :)

Your Forester already has a swaybar. IIRC it is 17mm on the rear. You can upgrade it to the 20mm rear bar off a 02-04 (IIRC, might include 05) WRX sedan. Very easy, just need the bar and bushings.

2500lbs is way beyond the actual practical tow capacity anyway. 2000lbs is pushing it. 1600 is very doable. No mods needed. But I do suggest a very indepth check on the cooling system and make sure the Timing belt is not 5+yrs old and pushing 105,000+ miles.

Thanks guys!

I'll get a hitch put on next week for the 04 Foz XS. The cooling system was flushed 2 weeks ago, all fluids changed, new battery, A/C charged and blowing ice cubes.

I'll be towing a 14' Lonestar aluminum V hull boat with about 300 pounds of gear in it, it probably won't tip the scales to 1200 pounds. The boat is being rigged to camp in on or off the trailer.

I leave the stock bars in place. When I get new shoes for her I might raise her a bit, 1 or 2 inches should be plenty for river roads.

My next project is figuring out where and how to install a new Alpine 8 inch in dash GPS multi media system (INE-Z928HD) and the two cameras. Then the HAM gear. :coffeedrink:

Before you lift, I would recommend some armor first. It's amazing how far a stock Subaru can go with just skidplates and decent tires.
