Suction cup alternative with RAM compatibility?

Can anyone recommend an alternative to the suction-cup-on-the-windshield as a mounting system for my old (well, 2005) Magellan Meridian? Currently using a RAM system with the suction cup but getting a little tired of the thing falling off the windshield when it's bumpy or dry or just when it feels like it.

Would like to stay with some kind of RAM mount, though, because I have the 1" RAM ball on my motorcycle, too (and soon on my Mountain Bike.) I thought somebody here had some kind of hard mount that stuck in between a couple of the dashboard panels but I couldn't remember if that was RAM compatible or not. Would prefer not to drill the dash (for one thing, I don't have much faith that the thin plastic in the dash can hold much without stripping out) but open to any ideas.

Not really interested in upgrading to a built in sat nav or touch-screen system, I like the Meridian, I just need a different way to mount it where I can see it.

These attach to the A/C vent, maybe that is what you are thinking of?

There is another that brackets behind the trim around the radio...I'll see if I can find it. I think the link I saved is at home...but I am somewhat sure it is compatible with the Ram mount system.

edit... Proclip may also be the one you were thinking of...still not the one I liked, though.

edit again... THIS or THIS are the ones I was thinking of...take off the trim around the radio, install bracket with screws, reinstall trim. Bolt whatever Ram mount you want to it. I have NOT seen these in person, but they really seem stronger than some of the others out there.

note: the last link looks like it is for a Civic, but scroll down, it is for a Tacoma too.
