Surprised no one is discussing the Cybertruck today.

I thought that a "pick-up" was designed primarily to carry goods, in which case forward control dramatically increases the proportion of the vehicle that is performing the primary function.

That ship sailed in the US a long time ago. Here it's all about safety, which as far as the relevant federal agency is concerned, is mostly determined by the ability to slam into concrete walls and shapes of various aspects. A van or truck where you are sitting over the front wheels fairs poorly in this, so we require that you have a lot of malleable steel and mass in front of you to "absorb" the impact. Whether you can see or not is irrelevant.

Of course, most people don't slam into concrete things, rather they are more likely to slam into other vehicles. If the ubiquitous 6,000+ lb commuter or "run to the liquor store" vehicle happens to go head on with a more sensible car weighing say 2,000 lbs, they will demolish it... even though that little car got stellar scores in the "slamming into concrete" tests. All the smart people know this, so if you really care about your family you'll only let them drive or ride in the biggest, most blunt-nosed, and lifted monster you can get... that also gets an A+ in slamming into concrete. These days everyone is driving them, so any idiot driving a small car is a moron who doesn't value their life, and deserves to die.

I predict electric vehicles will do well here, since they are inherently heavy and will reside at the top of the pecking order when it comes to who survives in a collision. We aren't dummies, we figure this... uh... feces out and act appropriately. Survival of the fittest, baby!

You're right, the sports car makes more power.... :ROFLMAO:

True, the truck is likely to be at higher power for longer, and at slower speeds. It will have greater cooling needs. But that isn't why pickups look the way they do. It certainly isn't an excuse for the new Tacoma and Frontier.
That is exactly why heavy duty trucks look the way they do. They also sit higher because of the larger axles, larger brakes, larger wheels to fit over larger brakes and higher weight rated tires.

As for the new Tacoma, Frontier and all the other “lifestyle” vehicles goofy design cues we are in complete agreement.

This is especially important for expedition vehicles.
Note those chosen in the rest of the world for this purpose (outside the USA).

Still see FC in some medium duty trucks here. Hino's etc...
I don't think there's really been any lighter duty FC applications in North America since the 60' with the Jeep FC, Corvair, Dodge A100 or Econoline pickups. FC never really caught on in the light duty market here.

Oh man, you really dated yourself with that!

And made me feel ancient too…Sanka! Geeze I remember seeing jars of that in the kitchen cupboards many, many years ago.

Q to the youngsters…do you know what that is?😁
The youngsters will google it and tell you it's instant coffee.

CYBER TRUCK HILL CLIMB COMPARISON

You be the judge…hill climbing ability comparison between Bronco and Cybertrunk:

(You gotta wonder what the angle of approach view is inside the CT, after watching this and seeing how far back the driver is sitting and how long and high the hood is. I haven’t fully researched this, but hopefully there’s a good front camera view on the huge information screen on the dash.

Per 2 day old write up on this…”While the front camera is mainly there to compensate for the lack of ultrasonic parking sensors that Tesla ditched… it apparently can also assist in "off-roading." The short and high front of the Cybertruck and its relatively massive footprint mean that its drivers may appreciate the presence of a front bumper camera feed more than on Tesla's other vehicle models.”*)
