Thanks for all the input and letting me tag along on this thread, great timing.

Ended up getting a White 2015 F-250 SuperCab ShortBox 6.2 Gas 4*4 and it came with Camper Package to boot which adds 300 lbs payload capacity (bonus) (she's a beauty) for my TC650. I"ll have time to break in the motor and powertrain properly before I mount the camper.

I will scale the front & rear seperately and the whole vehicle empty, do the same with the camper mounted then again with the camper and all the gear.

Good setup! The powertrain won't really know it's on there. Mileage won't be much but you saved $10K over the emissions heavy diesel.

Soyboy, we'll have to compare notes after the maiden voyage. I think I'm going to order my truck this weekend. Ram Bighorn, 2016, hemi, 3500, mega cab, 6.5' bed. My camper is still being constructed.

SoyBoy, I am interested in the Ford 6.2 gasser also!! I have a 2001 V10 and like it but the need to upgrade to an extended cab/4door in the next year as the family grows.

cninghm - wow! from a 1/2 ton to a 1 ton. I think you will have much less drama on the road with the 3500. You could be the gal sitting up at the wheel answering the young punk " yup - she's got a Hemi" :). You should consider you tire choice before you negotiate the deal - unless you like the stock ones. I went with the Cooper Discoverer A/T3's, based on some reviews and a comparo done in the at Overland Journal, they should be better than the Michelins would have been for light off road and the snow we get up here.
I would be more than happy to trade tales on the process and trips planned.

dtimms - It will be about a week before I mount the camper to the truck. Will let you know how the truck is managing. I figure it will not disappoint.

Regcabguy - I never really considered the diesel much. Several people gave me a bunch of reasons to stick with gas. 1 - If you don't use it daily (which i will not) don't get a diesel. 2 - Diesels weigh about 400lbs more which mean less payload capability. and a bunch less important reasons.

Yeah,I rode in a newer F-250 6.2 with a Carli 2.5 Pintop setup with his replacement rear leafs. Nothing short of amazing. The truck had Aluminess bumpers,a Leer cab high shell and a lumber rack with a rooftop popup tent. The owner e-mailed some shots from the Sea of Cortez. Stoked. The new mono control arms enabled Ford to reduce the turning radius 5.5'. All good.

Yeah, I'm still freaking about the 1-ton. But I can't get a definitive answer out of ram, and based on this forum info, I'm thinking "why not?"

Don't worry about, it's in your head, the 2500 and 3500 are identical size. I can't remember if I already posted this, but my 2500 has better visibility for passing and backing up than my 1500 did(bigger mirrors), the hood is higher on the 2500, so things are harder to see when you get tight to a wall or car with the front bumper.
Absolutely no issue when driving

A backup camera is awesome, easy to add if you don't get it stock.

Got a third female :) I am truck shopping and have enjoyed this post. I am considering an Alaskan which are very comfortable and feel nice. They are heavier than FWC but not that bad. I have not seen a Northstar but don't like the light allowing white top and have heard the roof does not carry much. FWC is very well built but not as cushy as I want for some hopefully very long travel with camera and very long lens :) So far I haven't made one darn decision...lol

Welcome happyjax. I fell in love with the Alaskan, too, but at the time, was not going to buy a 1-ton, so nixed it. I picked out my truck, then the camper (based on what the brochures said would fit the truck). But, I've heard so many conflicting things on this forum and elsewhere, I've decided 1-Ton will be safest. If I ever change campers, i'd go Alaskan. Beautiful! (I've only seen them in brochures, though).

Drove the 2500 Laramie again today. I think I'm in love. They didn't have a 3500 to test drive. I want to order this weekend!

Don't even look at a 1/2 ton truck with this camper or you will regret it...
Beamer Pilot
Do you have an extended cab-over on your camper? And what size truck cab do you have? Crew or Mega? I am finally resigning myself to a 1-ton and now want to make sure that my extended cab-over doesn't go past the cab of the truck. So, I'm thinking that I should get a mega cab. It appears that your camper does not extend past the metal part of your roof. It looks like the camper was custom made for your truck. That's what I want mine to look like.
Thanks!

Beamer Pilot's truck is a Crew. The Mega Cab is really easy to spot, it's got a good several extra inches of body behind the rear doors. It's obsceeeenely big, I've ridden in one. I don't know my Dodge's that well, but unless you're hauling 5 people regularly, I would pass since I assume it must add overall length if the bed is to stay a full 6.5'

For reference, here's a recent photo of my TC650 with extended cabover (do they even make a non-extended version these days???) on a crew cab F250. Fits like a glove.

Awesome! Thanks, Doctorit. Looks great. I went to the Ram build site to answer my question about the cab size and compared it to Beamerpilot's cab, but I wasn't sure about the camper cab-over. I only wanted the mega so it would fit the camper better. But, looks like I'll be good with the crew. Yay! The mega only gave me .5" length to spare in the garage - yikes! I'm getting so excited!

Well, the day has finally arrived. I ordered it!!! 2016 Ram, 3500 Bighorn, blackout edition. For about 24 hours, I almost changed my mind and went with white since the pics you posted of the white trucks looked so awesome. But, I know mine will never look that clean, so I stuck with black, since the dirt makes black look more rugged. Lol. Thanks again for all of your help, everyone, and for your patience. I will keep you posted and will post pics once I take delivery. Yay!
