I had one in alaska for about a year - VERY COOL rig! THey look the part and have the good ole Toyota factor we all know and love. Problem is they are a bit primitive by todays standards. They are slow out of the gate, they lack a comfortable highway speed above 65 for more than 30 minutes (to me anyway) they are carburetored which introduces its own set of issues - again by todays standards. They LOVE gas too.
I am sure many a family made the trip from New York to Yellowstone back in the days of new FJ60's and did it without a problem. By way of comparison, an FZJ80 is a limo. and coil sprung. And fuel injected. And not much more $ than a nice '60.
