My sister lives out in buckeye around 339th avenue and there is a vast amount of land out there. Tomorrow is my day off so I'm gonna head out there if anyone wants to join me. Should be a fun time with all the mud. Just called her and she said there are tons of puddles in her yard.

Adam, I taught myself how to drive a stick before I got a driver's license and I used to wheel that 87 Raider 5 speed all the time. What's so hard, especially with your super low range? A baby could do it.

Nice pictures, Josh.

Looking for that thing i just had in my hand...
Driving and Wheeling a 5 speed isn't hard it's the crawling part, i just get confused. Maybe my wang can run the brake while the legs work the gas and clutch.

This explains why you're not in the band. When I was in grade school, a friend that played the drums explained that the secret to playing the was to "untie" your limbs from each other, so as to make your brain send signals to each appendage, each digit, without regard to what any other was doing. Not like I can do it, but it made sense to what I "tried" to do. Next, try to balance a Mt. Dew in one hand, simulating a beer, and drive the Woodpecker Mine trail smoothly while shifting, steering, clutching, braking and hitting the gas. It might help to take up smoking too, because you'll get burned if you mess up.

Went out with a few work friends on Sunday. Got off on the Table Mesa exit from I-17 and after that, went everywhere. Had a decent time, I not only kept up with everyone, including my supervisors lifted chevy, but did a lot more too. Here are some of the pictures

Not stuck, just liked the stance

Im waiting for my supervisor to email me some video.

The monty performed phenomenally!!! I was really impressed that it did everything I wanted it to do.

With that being said I am sure now more then ever, I want to do the 4d56 swap. Once I find one for a half decent price I am jumping on it.

For some reason, the last post I just did, has to be approved by a moderator. Once its loaded you will see some pics of my last weekend at Table Mesa.

I wanted to see if anyone had connections to Canada, or the like, for importing a 4d56 or 4m40. Just found out my tax return is going to be bigger then I expected so the montero will be going under the knife.

Also Toasty, This is a quote from a thread from 2011 on 4x4wire from you regarding the 4m40 swap.

"I memorized the key points."

Apprently this guy started that blog but now the link is broken. Do you know if he posted that anywhere else?

Oh, we're working from my memory now? Well as bad as my memory is the key to that 4M40 swap is turning the Gen 2 transmission crossmember backwards. This moves the drivetrain forward and puts the 4M40 on the motor mounts, the rest is simple buy parts and bolt on. You will need the diesel transmission so look for a motor/trans/driveshafts combo from a Pajero they're usually the same price as just a motor anyway. Don't worry about getting the wire harness as you won't be needing it but if it comes with one you will be able to recycle a few bits.

I don't mean to over simplify the job but once you bolt in this setup and have the coolant system sorted (may need diesel radiator or lower outlet moved) and fuel plumbed, you will need to connect your coil power wire to your injection pump. Turn key and it will rattle, clack and whistle to life. Expect to be doing some gauge work as some are not compatible or will need signal converters from Dakota Digital.

I've been getting parts for my Pajero from Rising Sun in British Columbia. They specialize in Delica's and Pajero's and would have everything you need. They are great to deal with. They even respond to emails on weekend evenings. And with the way the Canadian dollar is right now, you'd come out on top.

IncorpoRatedX, did you send those ECU's off to your brother for inspection for HoseB? One of these days we'll have to go get that '90 for him, I suspect.

Seems the transmission (KM-148 auto) in my '86 has a problem. It slips badly. Even though the fluid is at the full mark, it sounds like the fluid isn't getting picked up and there's a loud noise at any engine speed in park, but particularly at idle, and the vehicle basically doesn't move. I haven't spent any time to see if there's fluid circulation. It probably has something to do with my never correctly adjusting the kick-down cable that has been basically slack for all this time. So, it sits again. At least the engine sounds great.

So who is the one selling the salvaged '96 SR? Is this the same truck that was for sale last year and again this year? Anyone have any info on it?

I have not, i will this week!

KM-148 is the designation for the 5 speed trans, i think mitsu had a typo in the factory service manual and labeled the auto as the 148. Can anyone confirm or correct me?
That trans is the AW03-72L, aisin 4 speed with over drive. which i think you already know.
some things ive learned about them:
The come in lock-up and non lock-up, you have to use the correct converter or you'll be in trouble
the v6 and 4 cyl are pretty much the same internally but you need to use the corresponding converter and bell housing, 6 cyl is bigger and has a different stall, will mess up your shift points by a lot in a 4 cylinder truck, so if you score a 6 cyl trans for cheap and it matches your trans (likely non-lock up) you should be able to use your converter, or buy a new one for nice tight shifts and good response. The one i put into the raider before it went to cali had a new converter and boy did that make things nice.

if you're making noise and the engine revvs but it doesnt go anywhere the pump is likely fragged. here's how two of mine have looked:

I've been to rising sun's shop when i was in canada the owner is very nice at that time he had a pretty good stock of used 4d56 motors i would say if you buy an engine from rising sun is to have them do a full service on it before they ship it, that'll just insure you have a top nick motor when you drop it in. Also if you can get the 4m40 do it! Timing chain vers the 4d56's belt more power smoother easier to start just all around better motor.

And i can't stress enough that you MUST get a egt gauge once you put one of these diesels in your montero without it i can almost be 100 percent sure you'll blow the head off it in no time if drive around without one.

km148 is the auto (aw 372) km145 is the 5 speed manual

Ah, then KM-148 is an internal designation? The AW part number being the Aisin-Warner part number.

Which brings me to a topic i lightly touched on with adam the other day while out wheeling;
I came across some cross reference information while researching some mitsu 8" diff stuff in regards to some spline changing that Pat is working on. In the topic I came across, some aussies were talking about the mitsu housings being borg-warner assemblies, possibly the differentials, possibly entire axle assemblies and trying to come up with a cross reference sheet, the information and the page was so old that a lot of the photos and info fell off... Any of you guys heard of things like this before? Aisin-Warner and Borg-Warner are the same company. AW being formed first in 69, followed by a joint venture of Aisin Seiki and Borg-Warner (by buying Stieber Rollkupplung GmbH, previously a transmissions systems company.)

That's as far as I've looked into it, thought i would ask before spending a bunch of time. End goal would be a parts cross reference ability to find aftermarket stuff made for other cars that fit our stuff, then update their listings to make our aftermarket support stronger.
