Navigation Update

Some of you are aware of the shameful pricing (read: 200+ freaking buckaroos) on these new Nav discs that you can buy from Land Rover, and they only go up to 2012! :(

A LR forums thread popped up a while back up with this guy mentioning that the LR software can be adapted to accept 2016 map data from the manufacturer that makes these discs for various automakers. AND HE CAN GET YOU ONE. Shoot him a PM for more info.

Sooo... something came in the mail the other day. :coffeedrink:

I wrote in sharpie on the disc so I would know what it is. Comes blank.

I was confused as to where this cover plate attached so I snapped a photo for reference. You have to pull hard - like ungodly hard to get it off. It will make you think you're about to snap it in half but it does come off.

Push the lock switch to unlock, it just lowers a dust shield where the disc slot is. Eject disc and insert new.

Original disc for reference

If you've ever flashed any of the ECU's with the GAP tool, its the same, wait for the loading screen to go away, takes a few minutes.

Then this message pops up and gives you a small heart attack, but don't worry it goes away in a few seconds

Back to normal, NAV-ON-MOVE now works.

All I have heard from the others using this is that the data is for US and Canada, but not Mexico. I may try and get a Europe one for whenever the Disco gets a vacation on the other side of the Atlantic.

Ruud, if you're out there reading this, thanks! Lucky to have guys like you out there. :)

I found the LR map data is good for the US but suck for Canada, many roads missing. I bought a Garmin, added a Camel Defender for the icon (just for fun), and it come with lifetime updates for free, plus I can use it in any vehicle. Much better for those north of the border.

Interesting. Well Bruce (Bbyer) on the LRforums has mentioned he used the Canada portion of the maps and the information is very up to date (2016 data). I can't comment on how good the LR discs are since the cutoff is 2012. I will say the disc I got was definitely cheaper than a garmin...

Just a followup from last month where I also have installed the new disc from from dijkvr.

For me, the disc seems very up to date; it show all but the newest minor roads in new local housing subdivisions. All the newer local freeways and new exits display, plus the routing works better than in the past. As such, I think there has been some sort of upgrade to the routing logic.

There are also improved display options that make reading the route at speed easier than with the past discs.

As to how close the output is to what would be on a new LR4/D4, I do not know but I expect there is now not much difference.

You need what I picked up at the weekend.

A front runner long range fuel tank.

£790-£944 depending on seller. I got it new from the Scottish Land Rover show for £350 from a front runner dealer.

I really do want one. But since the long winter/spring of maintenance is over, she's gonna make do with jerry cans, at least until bumpers get fitted. Thats a steal! Post pics :)

The dog doesn't seem amused but I am...

When checking all the pipework and fittings I found the instructions.
The kit was packed and signed off, back in July 2012.

So it's sat a while which may explain why it was down to such a cheap price. Which got cheaper when I waved crisp £20 notes under the sellers nose.
Cash talks.

Now I need to figure out how it goes together..
