TR rear bumper w/swingout pt II
In classic form we finished work around midnight so I was too beat to even bother futzing with a camera. Dug out the M&M tire cover that I had sitting...
One thing that is interesting to me was that there are a few gaps between body work and the new bumper. Thought I would hate it (we spent hours trying to fit it better), but honestly I had to wake up and go to work in the morning and I loved the bumper and forgot about the gaps. However see pics, this may be of interest to someone. I guess this loosening of tolerances to the other panels is for the exact reason it was hard to fit, the vehicles differ from one another.
Latching mechanism, funky to get used to, works OK. No issues yet, done maybe 500 miles so far on the highways here.
Swingout detail. I like the grease nipple, nice touch. The gas strut is super strong, what a pain to pop in (was always half a cm off...
)
TR did/does? offer the option of getting the opposite side drilled and blanked for a future jerry can swingout. The marks are mostly dirt and dust. Still haven't cleaned it up. Powdercoat is good. We had to beat on it with hammers and other large objects while fitting, no major damage.
Lastly, yes it was annoying to do the sensors. They aren't hard to do, but like everyone says they are spotty in working now because of the tire. I did mount them upside down so they face more towards the ground. They work normally maybe 50% of the time. Which is fine for the 6am coffee shop stop before work
