The F800GS a great do it all Overland Adventure Bike!! Post your pics!!

My bike was Number 1 2009 at my dealer when they hit the US. All the dealers got one at the same time to fill pre-orders. I have had many many bike and 5 BMW's and for me this thus far is my personal favorite. Why is that? because it is heavy enough for the long runs on the highway and light enough for getting over the rough mountain passes of Colorado and the creek bottoms and canyons of New Mexico / Utah.

Hey, I do not own a bike, but here at my work there are always some nice BMW GSs, and today one caught my eye, only because I was reading about it in the new OJ.

This was parked a few stalls over from my FJ Cruiser, and the cool framework of the body first caught my eye, then I was the lettering on it letting me know it was the bike I had just read about yesternight.
This one does not have the optional GPS, unless he packs it away,

I sure would not mind having one of these, but alas where I currently live I have no place to store it, and it would be hard taking it through my front door into the dining room

Back in 2009 my older brother came up to my campsite on his GS1200, that thing was a brute, this is more my size.

Can anyone tell by the picture what additional packages he has if indeed he has more than the base model?



PS, it does have the fog lamp option too I noticed right off the bat.

Just one question

Why is the F800 different from the F700 when they have the same motor? I know that the 700 is a bit de-tuned but still has lots of power yet I can get the 700 in a much lower version than I can get an 800. My wife, Mo, sat on a lowered 700 at the Phoenix motorcycle show and it fit her fine but no other bike in the BMW line was as low. Is the frame different on the 700? I imagine that the 700 is going to be more than enough bike for her, but I am curious about the difference between the two.

We are currently in the process of buying her a Suzuki DR650 and myself a KLR 650. If we don't make complete fools of our old selves with these two, then we hope to upgrade to the BMW 1200 GSA and the F700 GS. As you can see by the ignorant questions that I post, we are both very much novices at the motorbike thing (but, boy is it fun!).

I ride a GS with TT panniers and when I am loaded for camping while overlanding, I find my rig is heavy enough. There are a rare few moments when my boxer engine is squeezed between a rock and hard place. The FS800 seems a reasonable compromise. The KTM, Triumph and Ducati are other options I would consider, but I too am a BMW fan. Good choice for a platform to build from.

It has been around 40 or so years since I last rode.

Was psyched and kept waiting for the off road test. All I got was mostly asphalt with a little dirt road riding...thumbs down on the off road test vid.

Here's introducing my black and yellow hornet...23Kmiles and still going strong....mainly use as an oversize commuter for my 27 mile commute to work
with a 20GBP spend rather than my rovers 100gbp spend on gas.....yep thats just 1 tank of diesel...$167usd !

Nice bikes! The F800GS just might be what I need.

I've had 3 BMWs: 1983 R80RT, 1995 R1100GSA, both sold, and currently I ride a 2005 R1200RT.

Do any of you ride your F800GS 2-up? My wife likes to ride on the back. Also, how far will the F800GS go on a tankful of gas?
