Oh, I'll need help alright!

First things first:
1. Buy FSM I have one. It isn't for sale, but you have access
2. Buy heater core and replace
3. Service birfs Can they wait till you get out here?
4. Baseline everything else
5. Steam clean interior Don't bother until after the heater core replacement, unless you want to do it twice up front
6. Clean engine bay always a good idea
7. Valve adjustment This can probably wait until June
8. AC recharge I can do this for you, too. I have plenty of R-12

We can Get-R-Done

Awesome find

Wow, way to address the issues with the grand cherokee ;)

I can't wait to see more updates.

1. Where is a good source for the FSMs? I'm slowly wading through the threads on Mud, but haven't seen anything conclusive. Local to L.A. would be nice.

3/6. Once I clean the engine bay and axle, I'll take a close look at the birfs and their grease and make the determination from there.

5. Good point, from what I remember of replacing a heater core in my old Chevy Luv, they are nasty when leaeky.

7. I'm sure the valves can wait as it is only at idle that they are noticeable. I'll make the decision based on what I read in the FSM.

8. You're the first person I thought of when the AC issue came up. Crossing through Needles in June will suck without AC though!!!

Personally, When working on the vehicle, I prefer the downloaded version from TIS That way, you can print the pages you need and not ruin your book. I prefer the book for research prior to the work.

I'll dig up the thread on Mud about the easy way to download from TIS, it can be very time consuming if you don't know the tricks.

You can order a FSM from Dan Busey (CDan on 'mud) who is the parts manager for American Toyota in Albuquerque. Like MoGas, I usually copied the pages I was going to be using so that the main manual stayed grease free...

Also, try this:

http://forums.bauchan.org/portal/downloads.php

Lots of manuals there under "Toyota Workshop and Repair Manuals".

Ever find the instructions to download the FSM mogas? I have been buying single day subscriptions, because I like to take the pages out to the truck like you mentioned. However, I have almost bought an entire FSM already!

That is Gorgious! Where/how did you find it?

We were driving down Supelveda a week ago today, and passed the Carl's Jr/Green Burrito, and were sitting at the traffic signal. Looked over and saw the 80 with a For Sale sign on the back window, so we turned in and took a look. As I was looking it over, the owner's came out and we talked a bit about it. I got names and numbers and that was that.

Then the next day, Sunday, we were sititng at Barnes and Nobles, and decided to give them a call to test drive it. Went down to San Pedro, took it for a drive, looked it over, and chatted for a bit.

On Monday, I called and asked to see it again, and went back over on Tuesday. Offered them $2500 for it and they took it.

Did the paperwork and money transfer on Wednesday and drove it home wednesday night!

Congrats again to Fergie for finding and acquiring such a great "new" family-adventure vehicle. Hope it serves you well -
