The Next American Hilux?

I just wanted to share this with you all first seeing as many of you want the Hilux here in the States. I know there are talks (even confirmation) of the 2014 FJ being the last year in the US market and maybe, JUST maybe the Department of Defense (DOD) is testing out the next US diesel Toyota? We can all hope, right? Feast your eyes on these beauties!

Love that truck, but can you really see the US DOD buying Toyotas? Every politician running for office that year would be hunting down half the folk in the Pentagon. Now other governments? Hell yeah. There were Hiluxes with 30s and 50s mounted in the back all over the middle east when I was there.

Dream on! The military does this all the time, brings in a ROW truck, trains in it and ships it to area of operations.

If you look closely at the door that is open you can see it is an armored vehicle. This is probably for ODA to use in an un-named country near Iran...

I did see the armor. From what I could see, the underside was armored heavily as well. They guys were reluctant to approve my request to photograph. I'm not very familiar w/ military talk but they did spat out a few terms...Operation Detachment was one. Would something like this be built in areas like Iraq and then shipped over here?

Yup, NSTV Toyotas. Google a bit you'll find that USSOCOM has used Defenders, Hiluxes and Tacomas over the years for special deployments. Even heavily modified like this they blend in locally.

I see these all over here. Mostly in use by SF units. Some have weapons systems mounted on them.

Next American Hilux

I was able to find a picture of what the American version of the Hilux will look like.

I don't know. From the looks of Johnathan's article, the Tacoma isn't functionally much different from the Hilux. Diesel, aside, of course.

There is actually a lot of difference under the skin. Hilux is a much heavier duty truck than the Taco even though they look similar. We uparmored a lot of them the past few years for SOCOM - had to buy Gulf variant vehicles, bring them to the US on a temporary import permit, uparmor them and ship them out again.

I wish that the Taco and Hilux was simply a badging difference, it would simplify things a great deal.
