In the midst of all the action, there were also some relaxing moments.

I was initially skeptical when Rex told me about a wedding at our booth...it turned out to be a highlight of the event.

Rex's speech was incredible - funny and touching. Watch Expo for a full video soon.

The Defender replica on the table had a working winch which was used to bring the rings...

Many members of various original Camel Trophy events were present.

This marks the beginning of a 2 years trip around the world for them.

The venue was a massive improvement.

A quick survey of veterans yielded an estimate of 3x to 4x larger event (metrics vary, e.g. attendees, trucks, etc.).

The vendors we spoke with were unanimous that the attendees were much better qualified prospects.

The attendees in our sessions were a bit more seasoned than in previous years, with a bit more experience.

The session attendees ratio of desire to travel overseas was still low, fewer than one in ten. We'll keep working on that! :)

The eclipse was very well received, so we understand that Roseann has tasked Graham with scheduling one for next year's event. ;)

We didn't have a lot of time available to wander around, so coverage is very limited. All shots with my pocket camera, Canon S90.

My favorite bike.

My favorite overlanding rig at the show. My advice: Go sooner with less rather than later with more.

I had not seen this one before.

More access to overlanding. He said it worked best for people who had ridden prior to injury/disability.

Not just a race-ready rocket, but a family car too. Jay and Alice's daily driver, which the kids think is really just for them.

In our "Couple's Survival Guide to Overlanding" class, we teach that a key to success is for each person to have a space, bag or compartment that is private, inviolate and totally their own.

I'm not sure if Monika Wescott is claiming this box as her private space or not. I'll ask Gary the next time we see them... :)

The venue comes complete with buffalo. This was a big hit with first-time U.S. visitors John and Paul from ATW. Well, maybe not as big a hit as Walmart...

The venue also includes a Zane Grey museum. When was the last time you overlanded to a museum for somebody who wrote anything with a title as cool as "Riders of the Purple Sage"? There were quite a few authors at the event, but IMO none of us has a title that comes close to that one for cool factor.

Those who could stay for the BBQ were treated to a life event, a lunar eclipse.
Steph watching the ring of fire eclipse. We had a perfect view.

If you have attended a previous year's show, I highly recommend visiting this new venue in 2013. It is orders of magnitude better.

The show is also much larger, with more vendors, classes and attendees.

The campgrounds remain the highlight of the show.

If you have not attended, do whatever you need to do in order to attend. It really helps if you don't schedule yourself for a moto ride that prevents attendance (cough *James* cough *Lois* cough). ;)

Bottom line: It's a fun, educational and fulfilling gathering of the tribe.

And, we all owe a huge thanks to Roseann and the team for such a fantastic job. Kudos!
