Hey Mike,

If this doesn't work out, you can start the Official XV-JP Kvetching Thread.
I wouldn't want anyone to think, by my silence, that I didn't find this a great pun. :D

While there is--for good or ill--some carping about this and that going on with the forum, I'd just gotta testify that it is totally outstanding to be able to have the ExPo as a resource. In just the last four months, because of the forum particpants, I've found an exceptional FZJ80, an Adventure Trailer, the XV-JP and now a guy who is going to enjoy a vacation driving the truck where I need it to go. Best regards, and thanks, to all of you who participate with such a helpful, collegial attitude.

Not to mention the fine sense of humor.

Chris you lucky dog! Have fun and im sure you'll get plenty of jeep waves along the way.

I can't wait for the "fueling up" conversations. You know the ones. I'm sure they'll occur. By the end of the week, I'll probably have something to contribute to that Random Rig Remarks thread that just came back from the dead. :p

Yeah, Chris! Now don't go trying to trade if off for 10 Mini Coopers. Mike, you've picked a good man to be in charge of your XV-JP; I know he'll take good care of it and smile the whole way while driving it around. Getting him out of it and letting go of the steering wheel might be a problem at the end of the trip but a cattle prod should work if that issue crops up.

Chris, you going by yourself or are you taking the family along with you?

Where should I stop along this route, when I'm weary from driving, that will allow me to enjoy the vehicle's best qualities as a camper?
I don't think I'd have the heart to put those tires on an interstate at all... ...and I'd have a very difficult time keeping away from the Badlands along the way.... ....and the U.P. is sort of en route.... ....and I know a great place to go for pan-seared elk medallions and a lovely dry Bordeaux in Banff....

Have fun.
Yes; this is a great community. I've never encountered such a group of like-minded folks. In fact, I thought I was the only one before I found the site... I suppose you all know what I mean.

Hey, Chris,

Don't know if the timing will work out, but you might consider the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. It's on the way, has $15/night camping and a lot of sand (which they don't let you drive on. :( ) It's quite a few levels below Yosemite or the Tetons, but whaddaya want forty miles from Chicago?

A better idea if the weather is pleasant than if squally. Pretty cold and nasty by the lakefront in bad weather. (Spoken by one who grew up on the Lake and is really happy and proud to be from there.)

This is a fine opportunity for all. Personally, I would have greater reservations with vehicle shipping than with trusting a fellow forum member. I have some experience with both.

If I wasn't up to my armpits preparing for EXPO Trophy and SnT I'd have considered flying east just to do the trip myself. I happen to thrive on the type of scenery where you can watch your dog run away for a day or so.

Have a great trip!

I have it - Mike, I left you a message. I'm going to keep this brief, because I'm still at work, but so far... ************. ;)

Well, mhiscox, I wish to congratulate you on a fine purchase and I hope you purchased the optional drool-proof seatcovers to go along with it!

Chris, congratulations on scoring a vacation dreams are made of! There is quite a bit of countryside between here and there! Remember young Frodo, once you arrive at Mount Doom you must be ready and able to give up your charge! No biting the keys out of the rightful owners fingers!

Good luck, my friend, have a safe and happy journey!

So Chris....you got a battle plan laid out yet, young wanderer?

Nah. Just gonna drive. ;)

I do have a small problem though. To my dismay, the Earthroamer doesn't have a power outlet to keep my laptop charged and I was hoping to use it heavily. I may have to go to the store to get an inexpensive inverter. Camera batteries will need juice too.

Anyway, I picked up the Jeep in West Chester this afternoon and while driving it back, I noticed that almost everyone looked. Its really an eye-catcher! Some even stuck their heads out their car windows to get a better look. A nice couple driving a Super Duty pulling a camper gestured me to put down my window in the middle of moving traffic - his inquiry cut right to the chase, "What is that?!"

When I got home, I deployed the LoftTop, and went around the whole vehicle poking and prodding. The overall condition is very good, as you can imagine. Its really a high-quality, engineering marvel with a huge amount of functionality built into a relatively tiny space. That being said, its definitely built for the specific purpose of sustaining one or two people comfortably in a place that few (or no?) other campers can go. Thats my initial assessment, anyway.

I plan to get moving tomorrow morning at some point. I need to get a haircut.
