Well, I got the rest of the wiring done today, well except the brake controller (asap), deep cycle charger, and backup light (future).

Here's what I replaced.

IT BLINKS!

Well last thing before a test run is order some weather seal. The other stuff was too thin. I'll try NAPA saturday. I don't really want to order online because I have no idea what I'm ordering and fear several returns before I got it right...

Clark, I dont know your requirements for your weatherstripping but I just bought some stuff from home depot that seems pretty good. I can email some info when i get home if you are interested. It says "auto - marine EPDM rubber" It better be good, i bought 50' of it :)

Man I can't wait to write them!! Thanks!

Next? You guys having a fall Utah outing? ;) I was dissapointed to miss the trip in the spring. I'm not sure I am equipped for very cold weather, I hope to go spend the night somewhere in the next couple weeks.

That is exactly what I bought, it seems perfect but it is about an 1/8inch too thin. I need something at least 3/8inch thick. 7/16inch would probably be perfect, maybe even half inch for the tailgate.

Rather than wrapping in insulation tape on the link between trailer and truck that will unravel / die in the sun...

I threaded my wires through some PVC hose, it will degrade over time, but not like tape and provide physical protection to the wires as well.

fuel hose etc can also be used

I don't have a pic till my stuff arrives here

We need to get something cooking before the snow comes!

I agree with you actually. The electrical tape is really only holding on the original jacket that covered the wires.

I took the 7 14ga wires out, ran 6 of them and rewrapped them with the jacket where they came together in the front of the trailer, and will run a seperate 10ga wire when I get some deep cycle batteries.

What is in there now:

right blinker/brake
left blinker/brake
Aux lights
ground
electric brakes
backup light

Since wrapping it has to happen, a better tape option might be the 3M "Self Fusing Tape". It's commonly used for high voltage work (600+ Volt transmission lines) and is really thick. I use it where abrasion is a concern. I've had some on the exterior exposed portions of the glass buggy's harness for close to 20 years w/o any sign of deterioration. Once fused you have to cut it off, it will not unwrap.

I think that this is it:

3M Self Fusing Silicone Tape

Clark,

The trailer looks great all lit up like that. I really like seeing the little 3/4" side marker LED lights. Man, those things look nice and bright. I love it. I've been meaning to comment on this earlier but work and a trip to Canada got in the way.

Now we need a nice daylight picture of the Jeep and trailer all cleaned up and ready to go. It looks like you are enjoying the trailer so far; just wait untill you get it into the woods.

I was just going back through some of the pictures in this thread and I justa had to bring this one back. It sure looks great powdercoated and assembled! I'm going to need to build something similar for myself now.

Thanks Mike. I obviously couldn't have done it without you! Those sure are bright lights, almost hurt the eyes. I like them also.

The weather has been poor and we're out of trailer money, so there won't be too many winter updates. Can't wait for spring!

Well to my surprise I got a call from the powdercoaters today. The parts and pieces are done!! Well it was Friday, 80 degrees, and half my trailer was done, I couldn't well stay at work!!

I took the rest of the day off and went and picked it up. They have been having trouble getting all the grease off of the main body and have had to bake it 3 times, but I would rather them be thorough. I'll have to pick it up next thursday.

Here is a bit of a comparo with the JK in the background. The color is one of the stock colors, I just wasn't willing to shell out another 200 bucks to match the exact Jeep Green. It is pretty close but with a lighter tinge.

Looks like your powder coater did a really good job from the photos. Would you recommend him?

I'm needing a rack to be sand blasted and re-coated, but I'm new to the area and don't have any idea who is good or not. Please post his contact, or send me an email.

Thanks!

A couple of chain links or similar welded to the tongue would contain that wiring nicely and keep it from getting caught. Nice trailer. Hope to see it in person soon. I am in Boise.
