Simple meals are often the best! We paired a spicy salami from Canada with a cool creamy Italian cheese and 3-Seed crackers to enjoy a live performance of A Prairie Home Companion at the Red Butte Garden Amphitheater in Salt Lake City over the weekend.

Moose sounds fun. In Montana our moose hunting is a lottery system and if your name gets picked for a tag you have to wait another seven years before you can get in the drawing again.....

You're lucky! Here in MN it's a "Once in a lifetime" opportunity, only open to residents.

A group of us applied for 15 years, with no luck. (you apply in groups of 2-4)

2 of the guys have passed away now, and you loose the preference you get for the lotto if you change any names on your group:snorkel:

It takes 10 years to get the preference:Wow1:

In that time, 2 of our buddies passed away, and I became disabled to the point where Moose hunting would be almost impossible, certainly impracticle.

So, I rely on 'donations':coffeedrink: There's a lot of meat on a moose!!

Montana hunting is good, you can get whats called a Deer A tag (antlered buck whitetail or mule deer), an Elk A (brow tined bull), a Deer B (either sex white tail or antlered mule deer), and an Elk B (either a bull or a cow depending on which hunting district you live in), and those are the general season licenses that are easy to get, there are other licenses with varying rules depending on your hunting district. My wife and I are staying away from corn fed beef as much as possible and going with grass fed only and at our butcher it doesn't cost any more than the crap at the grocery store, but to go a step further I like to hunt and get some 100% organic and hormone free venison, and then that way I can also be absolutely positive it was killed humanely and handled properly before it gets to my freezer. Taking a lot of pride in the ingredients of your food makes your food so much better.

Hi Java,

I forget where you live. I got that at a local ethnic market in my north county San Diego town.

I went through 3 jugs of those last year (and even saved the cool jugs to use to store things in the SWR, I can't throw anything good away ya know. Especially Plastic!).

Now they have another brand called Appollo, 128 OZ. for just $4.99. Still just as good, and Imported from Turkey. I have no idea how they can grow them, package them, ship them all the way from Turkey.....and still retail them for just $4.99. Amazing.

I love ethnic markets. They import things that you would never see at a big box grocery store. And they always have great prices. And it's fun!

My daughter and I made some Lasagna last nite. It was really good. The picture doesn't do it justice:

mmm Stirfry type thing

I was starving tonight.
I started with organic, extra firm tofu. Got the skillet really hot with some olive oil, tossed in the tofu, some smoked paprika, turmeric, a pepper flake blend, a bit of garam masala and a liberal dousing of Louisiana brand hot sauce.
Voila!

I then cooked up some edamame, spinach, broccoli and green beans. When they were almost done I added some Sprouts Polynesian sauce!

And now - the final product!! And I have plenty left over to take for lunch tomorrow!!! Yay!!!:chef:

That looks good, have not cooked tofu in ages.
I use to make tofu cheesecake that tasted about as good as the real thing.
That was years ago though last time I made one, perhaps around 20 years.

Never had tofu:snorkel: But I have to say DarinM, that looks good!!

The other night, while at the cabin, I had me some fresh upland game birds:elkgrin:

Sliced up, cooked/browned in some butter with some special seasoning.

Added in some thin sliced Colby cheese, and some cottage cheese, and a glass of White Zin, I was good!

For me, the key to good tofu is cooking it right. It took me awhile to get it to where I like it. I've found that a really hot pan/wok and then putting a lid on it to crisp up the outside gives really good results.

I made major, major lifestyle changes earlier this year. Part of that was pretty much removing meat from my diet. I'll still eat a little bit of meat every once in a great while - maybe a piece of bacon in a breakfast taco or something. But in general I'm probably 99% vegetarian, with probably 1/2 of what I eat being vegan. Coupled with the bariatric surgery that I had at the end of March, I've lost so far a person's worth of weight with more to go. I'm also feeling sooo much better now that I don't eat any processed stuff. Nearly everything I eat is organic, unprocessed, no additives/preservatives/evil chemicals. It's good stuff.

The pie above looks great!

Got a new app for my Droid called Retro Camera that gives you five old style cameras to choose from.

Neither picture is retouched with software, the camera applies the effects.
All I did was downsize them a bit for here.

First up is the Polaroid camera complete with scratches.

Next is the pinhole camera.

It is a variation on the blue chips, chili, cheese, tomato, avocado that I have been eating for awhile on Friday nights and on my vacation in August.

I substituted one sourdough English muffin for the blue chips, and added a dog on top of it along with the other ingredients.
