Totaly off topic, Gun law question

Well, I don't think you should drink in public if you can't keep your judgement intact. I mean, saying that no one prevented it because everyone was drinking is pretty lame. In my family, the biggest killer insn't cancer or heart attacks, it's drunk driving. If you can't keep an on your friends when you go out, and they can't watch of for you, then don't drink. Too bad they weren't all arrested.

. When he returns he recruits friend 2 to drive for this mission (Keep in mind that friend 2 is having a hard time standing up)
Friend 2 manages to complete his 16 point tire smoke filled turn and they zoom off down the street while all of us are pleading with them to rethink their horrible decision.

I was never fearful of someone physically getting hurt, just losing their freedom over something completely STUPID!!!
Having had two friends killed by drunk drivers in two seperate events, I'd say your friends are wreckless and define the word "criminal." It only takes one action to be a "criminal" and well....they qualify. Not to judge them as people, but their actions sound repulsive.

I'm a very lilly livered, yella-bellied type guy, but if I see a drunk proceed to get in a car, I'll bring a world of hell to stop it. I wish someone would have done something to stop the two drivers that killed my friends.

Personally, if I had friends that behaved like that (which I wouldn't) I wouldn't think twice about dialing the cops. I'd rather get excluded from their next birthday party than get invited to their court sentancing or funeral.

I'd probably think twice before going out to a bar with those two again. Also, as a cop, there's a good chance he would have ended up seriously hurt, to say the least, had he been pulled over!

What is surprising, is that no one was killed. Usually in this situation it's an innocent bystander. I can think of all kinds of ways this could have gone bad and next time it might. You sure you want to hang with someone like this? So next time he's been drinking he pulls out his .45 and you die? Drunk or sober, this guy sounds like a tragedy waiting to happen.

He is so lucky the police did not stop him as he would have likely been shot. Happy birthday, dude.

"I was drunk" is never an excuse, though it may be a reason.

Guy here in Denver got drunk on new years eve and decided to shot out a street light because people get drunk and shhot their guns on new years.
His bullet went through a wall, someone's head and into a little girl.
Two dead and he is up for murder 1 based on the total disregard for human life.

My friends would have never gotten out of that parking lot if I was there.
Whether I had to do it physically or involve the police they would not go out to do something stupid with a gun. Not against guns, I have a huge collection. I just don't want one instant of stupidity to ruin a lot of people's lives.

Wow! Scary suff. People just don't realize how far a round can travel and what it can penetrate. Plus Guns and Alcohol are never a good combo. I've never brought booze on any shoting trip I've been involved with. Not worth the risk.

Isn't it illegal to have the gun in a bar? You said he fetched it, does that mean he brought it into the bar to show off?

So I spoke with these two last night, Explained my feelings about the situation and explained how bad what happened really was. They were both very apologetic and birthday boy swore that nothing like this would ever go down again. And friend 2 realized that even though the gun wasn't actually in his hand that he was really just as dangerous as birthday boy. It's not forgive and forget... It is definitely going to take some time before I can trust these two again. Fortunately no one got hurt, but if I ever see something like this happening again you better believe that the boys in blue will be on their way!

Thanks for your input on this situation.

Driving drunk, loaded gun in vehicle, God knows what else they did. Your avid gun collector friend was close to becoming a felon, and losing his right to keep ANY guns.

Your pal is an idiot.

YIKES!

In my early years (choir practice...) I was witness to some colossal acts of stupidity....thankfully nothing happened with your friends.

Someone needs to step in when these things get started....barring that contact LE...barring that? GET FAR AWAY!!! If you cannot stop the scenario do not be near-by when things "happen".

+1 Gives all gun owners a black eye...

I can hear the talking heads on cable now...

"Another crazy gun owner injures/kills self/friend...Hey Bill, why are these dangerous assault weapons availabel to the public..." Heeeeeeere we go.

It ain't the "scary" looking firearm, its the person behind it.....

Are you guys serious? This is a typical saturday night in Albuquerque! What's the big deal? (OK ,OK, being a firefighter/paramedic in a big city , maybe I'm a bit jaded).

Really though.. to answer the question,
1: It depends on what STATE you live in on "How bad" of a crime it is. For e
2: Unless it was FULLY automatic, an AK47 is treated just like any other long gun., heck, in most states pistols are treaded with more laws then rifles due to the concealability. The AK47 is considered a long gun. Unless, some stupid state specifically banned that gun based soley on the "mean looks "- a stupid, idea.
3: Everyone invloved could get charged with "Parties to a crime"- usually a misdemeanor.
4: the "Shooter" could be charged with "Neligent discharge of a firearm"- also usually a misdemeanor.
5: Lets not forget about the DWI charge as well.
6" Some states/ counties have laws prohibiting use of a firearms in certain areas, exp.- near schools, residential areas,, a certain numer of feet from a raod or building.. etc. Usually the "Crime" gets worse the bigger the city you live in, and, with the exception of California, it also gets worse the more northeast one moves in the US. It truley is state dependant.
In New Mexico, (part of the USA, for those of you who are geographically challanged), I can run down to my local sproting goods place and pick up an AK47 in about 10 minutes. Agian, a gun is a tool, and if that tool gets used wrong, the USER should be punished. It is a stupid and worthless idea to "Ban" guns, idiots and criminals will always figure out a way to do bad things. As for me, (an ex-cop) I ALWAYS carry a gun, but nobody is ever going to know I have it, because I am a responsible gun owner. Now- granted, if my family is in grave danger, then I will be forced to use it, but I'm not the type to pull it out and brandish it cause someone cut me off in traffic or "mad dogged me" or whatever these idiots gangbagers call it.
Yes, I am a US Army Veteran, a former State Policeman, and a lifetime NRA Member, so please people, lets not talk about banning guns, , I know-- Lets take the gun laws we already have on the books and APPLY them to stupid people that use the guns in a criminal or negligent manner.! Sound good? :26_7_2:
