I've literally lived in 2 pairs of Amphib shorts for the past 3 weeks in Europe...great shorts, the pants are on their way now!

And the new Stealth has held up like a champ in some pretty serious rain across Austria and Switzerland during the last week, I just wish there was a way to cinch the hood at the rear, it's a bit too big for my head and flops over my eyes...

Thinking about the Ranger hoodie, good review in this video.

If you wear a 2XX T shirt, is the 2XX size for the hoodie to fit loose, or will it be to tight?
I like my jackets a little loose, not so much to layer, a short sleeve/long sleeve shirt underneath would be fine for winters here.

Corey, I ordered the new Ranger in my normal size (medium) and it fits perfect with just a t-shirt underneath. Actually, I wouldn't be able to layer much more than that.

Once again, the cut of the hood is (in my opinion) not very well thought out. It is waaay to oversized to be practical, so big in fact that I'd wager I could put on a motorcycle helmet and still pull the hood over my head. Just like the new Stealth, absolutely amazing jacket but the hood could use a serious re-design.

Thanks Ron, that is good to know about the hood.
I have two other hoodies in my closet I use, but I never use the hood part of them, I am more of a hat person if it is raining out.

If you aren't concerned with the hood then it's a great piece to add to the arsenal.

Full disclosure, apparel design/development/testing was my business after college so I'm overly nit-picky about the details. TAD does an excellent job with most everything, my only complaint with anything I've ever purchased from them is the hood design.

You're in Auburn, I'm in Tacoma. I'd be happy to meet up and let you check it out before you buy...

Thanks for the insight. I will pass this along to our Design team.

Hi Corey,

Check out our fit chart for guidance. Note that if you read reviews/comments about 2010 or older Rangers, we have changed the fit in 2011. One last thing, we don't have large quantities at the edges of the size curve (Sm, XL, XXL). So you might order to try things out when you see something you like in your size. Here's the return policy.

Thanks for your interest in TAD! Hope it all works out.

Off to do some overlanding with Bay Area Expeditions. Lucky me!

I've been aware of TAD Gear for about six months. It looks like they sell good products but it is a little too expensive for me to test. They are in a pretty competitive market and some of their direct competitors come in at a better price point.

I've known about TAD Gear since 2008. They're the Gucci gear of tactical apparel and I agree with Momrocks....competitors come in at a lower price point for equally good gear. Some of my men have worn it but when I checked it out, it wasn't that impressive over other brands.

I think what separates them is the design. It is inspired by both the tactical world and modern design with a hint of heritage too. I cannot speak to the performance advantage (I have not tried their competition), but the clean, fitted and inspired design is what sold me.

This pathfinder comes to mind. I can wear it out for a night with Stephanie or slogging through a muddy forest trail

how's their overlander long sleeve shirt? It's on sale right now.. Looks decent but I see it's cotton material.. not exactly the best for active wear. What is the reasoning behind that choice of material?

Hi Ywen,

Thanks for your question. We selected French twill for this shirt for a few reasons. One, it is incredibly comfortable. Two, when washed it sheds odors while synthetic can retain odor even after washing. Three, we like the look. It's classic and we have a lot of heart for the design heritage of expedition clothing.

If you look at the closets of many (if not most) people who use performance apparel, you'll tend to find more apparel made of cotton or other natural fibers (like Merino) than synthetic. Synthetic is great when quick drying is paramount. It can be lighter in weight, as well.

There's no single textile that works for all situations, of course, and we use both here at TAD depending on the use case and design vision for each piece.

If you have big biceps, you may want to hold off for the forthcoming Fall version of the Overland Shirt, which features a larger sleeve diameter.

Are all of their clothes really made in the USA? I went to their web page, but didn't see anything on the page about where they make their clothing. If they make it in the USA, they should tout that on the web site, as I would be willing to pay a premium for their clothing based on that.

I was hoping to pick up one of the Ranger Hoodies during the sale, but my size sold out pretty quick... Oh well, one of these days.

TAD Gear can be hard to get, but once you try it. It gets used! There products just work well. Keep trying, once you get a piece you will wonder why you waited so long.

Ranger Hoodie and Force 10 Cargo Shorts, Sunday Drive in the Pinzgauer!!

Since TAD is listening. My one suggestion would be to branch out on the colors.
