Mad chad. Another way to identify the axle wether it is a dana 50 or 60 is to check the pumpkin. Dana 60 has 248 the dana 50 has 229.

Pic from my van axle.

That is on the upper right area where the tubes are pressed into the pumpkin.

Cool, thank you Nely. The more I know the more money I will save in the end!
Hey any new things on your rig? I'm allways looking for a fix and enjoy the e350 photos and builds.

Good luck! Get lots & lots of pics....

Well it was a 2006 6.0 diesel. It was serviced by dealerships until 7/11, where it was diagnosed where it needed 8 injectors. Fleet service that owned it declined service, and there is no maintenance record from then until now, so...passed on it.

Drove great, but felt it was going to be a ticking time bomb.

As an aside, it could barely climb the grade out of the owners apartment complex, so when I do find a van, the 4x4 conversion is getting pushed up on the schedule. He had to back up and get a running start, and still had issues, where my LC just walked up it with zero drama. Might just be due to tires, but with snow and ice on the ground, the vans need help.

Yep, all Ford vans in those years came with an open rear dif for better mileage and because it’s cheaper. Just like most older 2WD pickup trucks it’s really only one wheel drive, you can sit and spin one wheel on flat ground much less a grade. First step is to put some kind of a locker in the rear (Detroit etc.) to get you by if you are slowly building a project 4X4 van over time. :smiley_drive:

That stinks. How many miles? There could have been a few or many issues.....

189k. It might have had all 8 injectors replaced, or the FICM fixed/replaced, but in the past year there are zero maintenance records, and it has traded hands at least twice since getting the 8k repair estimate from the dealership. He had talked himself down from $9900 to $8500 before I even looked at it.
