Today was D - Day...

Took the hilux to a mates and installed the track for the roof rack...

This ment drilling holes :(

First the weather strip was removed and revealed 7 years of grime... nice

This was cleaned out ready for the track

The tracks where placed in the channel and measured from the window seal so they are both 210mm from the seal

Then we marked through the hole, removed the track and using a drill stop made out of a bit of rubber hose drilled through

Then the holes are painted to stop rusting and sealant applied

Job done...

I then installed the roof rack itself which I had pre assembled

By this time it was dark so this is the best picture I have... haha

You're braver than I am... I would have filled the entire channel with that sealant. Looks good tho!

Today I installed the awning from the jimny on to the UPRACKS Roof Rack using some brackets I made

I wanted the awning to be as low as possible so it's protected by the roof rack if I forget how high the hilux is...

This way I shouldn't get a draft through the gap between the awning and the roof of the car ether :)

I tried out a little trick I thought off today...

After painting my mates steel wheels I realised that they have a weak spot for corrosion.... The part where the center piece is pressed into the outside rim tend to collect mud and crap which eventually starts rusting

In an attempt to fill the gap I have tried a silicon sealant bead like below

I ant the best with sealant but it didn't turn out too bad... now it might just simply fall apart the second I good on to the rough stuff but it's worth a shot

I will let you know how it holds up

Hints if you haven't already guessed...

I found some rust after removing the roller cab... not happy

Sanded down and painted with red oxide lucky enough you won't see it
