Pat. I have a Panasonic FZ20 that does have a sleep mode. I just put the camera into sleep mode and waited for the camera to go to sleep. I then clicked the shutter button and counted out the seconds. In five seconds I had recorded 4 shots from the time I pressed the shutter button.

That's the same p&s my friend bought for his son. I've tried it and while it works well in good light in most shots, I saw issues when I zoomed in for the shot. Focusing was much slower on moving objects (kids playing at a party, etc.) in this situation. Plus it was pretty noisy at higher ISO's (of course I am a little spoiled by my D300 dslr). How are you getting your party shots? Are you not zooming in so much or maybe pre-focusing and leaving it in manual focus mode? I should add that I prefer to take un-posed shots so that makes it all the more important that it focus quickly so I can catch the action/expressions.

Currently I'm using a Nikon S8000 for snapshot use offroad although I still carry my dslr along with a plethora of lenses (12-24mm, 28-105mm & 150mm macro) well. Because of this 'burden', I am intently watching both new p&s' and also the many EVIL cameras (although I'm not exactly happy that I'd have to buy specialized lenses for those cameras too).

Can you guys post up some photos from this camera. Especially in low light conditions so we can see it's capabilities

Which one? We are all over the map here on cameras.

And I would not call the FZ20 a P&S. It is, ahem, a "pro-sumer" camera. There's a term you don't see much any more.

This new Olympus XZ-1 is pretty sweet. F1.8 lens

Wish this was out a few months ago.:( Looks like the Canon S95 plus the external flash which is exactly what I was looking for.

Will be interesting to see image comparisions between the two cameras in an in depth review.

Pat- I'll look through images I have taken with the S95 is that is one you are asking about. I will be on a landscape shoot this weekend and will take a few more 'thought out' images with it as well.

Nikon FM3a

Full Frame,
Tough, beautiful,
Stick Shift,
you can shoot somebody shooting HD video with it,
You can bump start it if the battery dies,
perfect size,
Perfect look
cost is good too.

:)

Except:
Range is limited (exposures on the roll)
Cannot view images until fully developed
Cost is good for the camera and lenses. Not so much on film and developing. If you develop yourself it is getting more and more difficult to find all of the supplies.
Learning to develop and print can be expensive.
Drum scanning is expensive

Might have to throw the Canon AE-1 in the bag this weekend though. :sombrero:

Me too. I have my dad's old Canon QL17. It's going to the local camera shop so they can get it working so I can try it out. It's just too bad they no longer make the batteries so the meter will work.

Offroad: I am providing a link regarding the QL17. In this link you will read you can use a modern day battery for your auto exposure. The battery is an alkaline PX625A which can be found at most drugstores. Great camera. George

Off-Roader. I have my camera set to spot for auto focus and spot for metering mode. At a party I do not zoom and use the camera at the wide end. I have a Nikon SB20 Speedlight I use often for fill and indoor situations and of course night shots. Posting a link to a user of this camera. I recently downloaded the Helicon Filter software(free) which he mentions and the filter does an amazing job with noise at 400 iso George
