hello guys,
my u500 got tires change recently, due to extremely out of stock problem, after I called Michelin and Goodyear headquarter in North America, they both said out of inventory. I searched for many days and finally found the new tires, Goodyear, MVT, 395/85/r20(Max load 10,200lbs, max speed 65mph), to replace my old Michelin XZL 395/85/r20(12,300lbs, max speed 55mph).
It took almost 2 weeks for shipping, finally I got the tires 3 days before Xmas.
Since I only bought 2 new ones, I asked the tire shop to put the 2 new tires on the front, and unmount the 2 front old tires then flip over and mount onto the rear.
Those guys are not familiar with such military tires change, they don't know there's anti flat rubber blocks inside each tire, so they failed to unmount the tire from the rim after attempts by hours, except some dent marks left on the outside rim. They called me and said they couldn't handle the job and let me find someone else to do it.
So I googled and found a few videos from YouTube 'how to unmount the military tires', which really be helpful and I showed the video to the tire shop guys, they followed that procedure and successfully unmounted the tires.
Since it was Xmas holidays, it took them over one week to accomplish the job.
Last Friday I went to the shop and drove my unimog back home, when speed reaching 30mph, the steering wheel started strongly vibrated, which really shocked me and I drove back home scarily.
Today, I dropped the unimog at the tire shop again, after whole day check, at 4pm, I was called to the tire shop, and was told by the shop manager, the two new goodyear tires are defect--non-round, which is the reason caused the steering wheel vibration.
So I drove my unimog back home, on the way home, I felt again strong vibration when speed reaching 30mph, also, I have to tilt 10-15 degrees to the right to steady the truck in the middle of the lane. Before tire change, I can let go the steering wheel for a while with no issue, now it keeps vibrating even I hold the wheel firmly at 30mph and over.
Since there are many professional mechanics and technicians here in the forum, your opinion should be more useful and helpful to solve this problem.
Now my question is, should I believe what the tire shop said, the new tires are not round, or unmount the tires at my yard and take further check on the calibers, brakes, steering knuckle, hub, reduction gear, see any damage the tire shop made due to neglect during tires change. what is the most possibilities caused such problem?
Because the seller couldn't provide me the tires' production date, and the specs such as max load, load range to me before delivery, thinking about quality and budget, I only bought two in case of unpredictable problems happen, so I put two new Goodyear MVT tires at front, and keep the 2 old rear Michelin XZL tires, just flip over, the tread is different from the Goodyear and Michelin, but I don't think the tread would be the problem caused the vibration.
attached pictures can see the anti flat rubber blocks inside the old tires. the tire shop said they pulled out the rubber block and insert the block back into the new tires.
thank you in advance, guys!
