Up-yers!!!! (Expedition Trophy)

I had but a brief stay at this years Expedition Trophy, but I have to tip my hat to everyone that was there. Fine bunch of folks. The equipment that shows up each year just keeps getting better...rolling up to camp mid-day on Saturday, there was no mistaking I was in the right place. It could have been a trade show in the bush...cool stuff.

But, I have to give a nod to Paul May @ Equipt. After last years performance during the "cocktail competition", where Paul set the bar pretty high, we were not sure what to expect this year. Well, he succeeded in raising the bar (literally--he added 2" to it...), and set up the "up-yers brew pub", and was serving some of the best beer I have ever had. No, seriously. I am not a huge home-brew fan...but the Dakar Lager was simply incredible.

I also must commend my dog, Cherokee. She was there as the campsite "enforcer". It seems she felt that this was not a "land rover" event, and was dead set on letting Brian McVickers know it!

To all who are still at the event...with the competition getting in full swing tomorrow....good luck! Enjoy it....

It was an unbelievable site. I was extremely impressed by all the unique appetizers and drinks. From crab cakes to Korean Ribs and appletinis to a Frozen White Russian... Props to everyone.

We just made it home from this year's Expedition Trophy as we needed to bug out a day early... Once again, it was a fantastic event with great folks. It is unimaginable how much work must go into putting an event on like this. Thanks to the organizers and sponsors for continuing to make this happen!

Okay, here are a few teaser pics from Christine's camera... Sorry but most of them are of me:

The 2008 Expedition Trophy Champion is ...

somthing I don't think I should announce. But I will say that I think this is the first time the winner wasn't from Arizona. Pretty cool deal since some really had to make an effort to get out here.

cool, I missed it. So, who won the closed course?

Ah... Jeff you are the closed course legend. Your name was mentioned among the shadows in hushed voices. Naturally, you would be interested in the winner in this catagory. Well, the driver who had the fastest time didn't win, but the closed course winner did use the same vehicle (what an awesome sounding exhaust!). Did that make any sense?

IIRC, the "navigators" were allowed to drive the course, but their times were not official (because they were the navigators, not the drivers).

Apparently one of the navigators out-drove all of the drivers...:REExeSquatsHL1:

We had a couple of very photogenic finishes on the sand course.

Lance:

And, in a fully equipped (Equipt?), roof-tent-mounted 100-Series, Paul May:

Paul, unfortunately, was later the recipient of the Carnage Award for a bit of front diff trouble, which involved turning a unit comprising perhaps 15 parts into one comprising perhaps 100.
