watertight boxes.....

I went to a not-so-far-away military surplus. They had some Hardiggs and other decent cases but none were really the size I was looking for. Their prices weren't too bad I just wish they would have had one more like I want. I may have to look into picking up a couple of those Flambeau Defenders. I will need them in about a month.

Thinking about one of these and maybe some rubber trim around the top or a bead silicone.

Anyone check these out yet?

I have seen those Plano containers a few times at Academy and Cabela's. The bottom part is just as flexible as an ActionPacker (if not more so) and I must say that I wasn't really impressed by the amount of interior space because of all the indentations made by the molded shape.

However, I did find these 'airtight' containers made by Iris USA at Cabelas...

Except for the 30" length I really like these. The $40 price isn't bad. The tops have indentations for the feet molded into the bottoms so they stack very well, and they have a foam gasket in the lid. The bottom part feels less flexible without its lid than either the Plano or Rubbermaid containers. I may use these instead of 24gal ActionPackers if they'll fit in the short back end of my FJ. Wish they also had a smaller 8-10gal version.

It looks to be bigger than I want but not bad. I may have to throw one of those into the ring.

I have one of those, and for the most part things stay dry. The only down side is were the continuous hinge is at, this lets some water in. There really isn't a way to seal the top/hinge from leaking. :(

I looked at a couple similar to the Plano box at Home Depot and they had what is probably about the same style hinge then. Seeing I will be keeping some clothes in them, I would like a seal. I am still contemplating on finding a Pelican or Hardigg used. I just have to find out their numbers for a size I like (or a size they make I like).

I ended uyp getting a couple of those wannabe camo boxes I posted at a local Dunham's Sports for <$30. I like the size but they could be a little more sturdier.

They will be going on the roof rack and I don't know how much rain they will see. I will post up my trip results with them though.

walmart seems to have gotten rid of the action packers, and has new containers that are very similar. they look like they would work just as well as the action packers and may actually seal a bit better. they also now carry the stanley tool box with rubber seal.

I saw some earthtone action packers at Gander Mountain a few weeks ago. I thought they looked much better than the black/red ones.

Totally agree...

x2, but I still didn't really care for the dark green bottom section that I saw at Academy. I'd rather they were a little more heat-tolerant color. I tried painting the lids of mine a while back, but the automotive spray paint I used didn't adhere well for long and the applied color just wasn't right. More yellowish than desert-camo. I'm gonna try some Krylon Fusion Camo paint next (4291 Khaki).
