Weight reduction and downsizing...

I am still a newb here but my personal opinion after spending a couple years playing at the dragstrip on weekends is that losing 10 lbs here and 10lbs there is absolutely worth it.

And some of the potential gearing changes with the tire options being considered should offer some amazing changes in seat of the pants feel.

Everyone has to consider what they might or might not run into on their trips, my trips are very mild so I look at it from that point of view.

But a lighter rig goes further on the same amount of fuel and is generally easier on the equipment.

How many people have bent a steel and HAD to use it to get out and just didn't throw the spare on and deal with it later?

.

Yep... I just threw on the spare. My new spare is still bent :hehe:

You know, it strikes me that this is one of the only places on the net that you could get a bunch of enthusiastic responses to a post about making your truck SMALLER! :sombrero:

I envy your ACT trip. One of these years I'm going to make that run...

Oh yeah - I still have steel rims, but this made me think aluminum rims might be tougher than I gave them credit for. This was a 260 km/h blowout on the Autobahn. The rim was x-rayed by Benz techs and was totally sound and safe for re-use. I was impressed.
