The wife has decided she likes the RRS over the LR4 (not quite as good for me as far as a future hand me down - I was planning on transferring my upgrades from the LR3 to an LR4 - I will just keep my 3 longer :) ). We are looking at an '08 to '10 based on our budget level. Any suggestions or opinions on shooting high for '10 or saving and getting an '08. She prefers how they drive and the nicer interior vs the LR4/LR3. We test drove a 2010 RRS and a 2013 LR4.

Are the '08 a big step down interior wise?

We may drive a full size RR '08's might be doable. How much fear should I have if we decide to get an '08 RR? Are the gremlins waiting to take my cash and soul? Or are they similar in reliability to the LR3 and RRS?

Just curious. She may not like how they drive either. However, she likes posh interiors so...:)

We love our 08 RRS but the 10+ interiors are definitely a lot nicer. That being said, we didn't feel like spending 10k+ more on one so we got a low mileage certified 08 for a good price (in our area). I would not be afraid of reliability issues at all on an 08. Our dealer has many LR3's and Sports from 08/09 that are well over 150k, going strong, and haven't had any major issues.

With a 2010 and newer you also get a much better engine 5.0 V8 and same mpg.
Also the '10 and later might be bit more reliable as is the LR4 vs LR3.

the 2010+ Sports are a significant improvement in amenities over the 2006-2009 which are really just like an LR3 inside. There is nothing special about it compared to the LR3 that you have, aside from a slightly firmer ride/tighter handling and the exterior style.

The 5.0's are starting to develop some interesting issues with things like timing chains and will no doubt be more expensive to maintain in the long run (100k+ miles) but it is a really nice power and drivability upgrade over the 4.4

The important questions you need to ask yourself in determining which is best are:

What is your budget?
How important is it for you to have the most recent "looking" model?
How long are you planning to keep the car?
How important will the residual value be when you are done with it?
