Installed the Rock Slide Performance sector shaft brace. Highly recommend for all Jeep JKs.

I have a question, don't want to start a whole thread for it, my dad and stepmom have a '11 JK 2dr with a hpd30/d44 combo, my dad took it to an offroad shop and asked what he could do to make it a bit snappier with the throttle, guy said best thing he could do is regear, he is at 31" with 3.73, my dad said once the 31's are worn he wants 35s so the guy said he would want 4.88 or 5.18s. I thought the biggest you could go with a D30 is 4.56? did they change something with the new D30s?

what do u mean snappier? needing more power or getting rid of that delay in the gas pedal?
I added a superchip tuner to my JK which made the gas pedal much more responsive and at the same time added a bit more pep off the line. You can give that a try till your dad steps up to 35's.
yes you can regear higher then 4.56:1 on a D30

his JK has no bottom end power, its actually kind of pathetic. 6th gear is only suitable for very flat roads, hit the smallest hill and you have to down shift.. that leads me to ask, what did they change in the D30? on my XJ the biggest you can go is 4.56 because the housing is just too small for anything else.

The D30 can go with 5:38's, although once at 4:88's, the pinion is pretty small and prone to problems.

The D35 rear axle used in Jeeps, used to be able to only go to 4:56 (you can now go to 4:88's through Superior Gear)

That may explain why you were told your Jeep could only go to 4:56? If they were taking both axles into consideration.

The '07 to '11 JK's are under powered and doggy, the 'drive by wire' throttle does not help any.

Regearing to lower gears (higher numerically) will bring the engine back closer to it's 'power band', and tuner chips, CAI with bigger exhuast,, will help with horsepower.

@bldeagle10: Check out 'Grimm Jeeper'

It's a gearing chart, with side by side comparisons.

ie: you can put 4:10 gears on one side, and 4:88 gears on the other, and compare the results.

Really helps you figure out what gears (or transmission, Tcase, tire size, etc.) will work best for the rig.

I'm not sure what the 'Sweet Spot' is for the JK in terms of RPM's, but you can find what gear ratio works best for what RPM's make your rig happy.

Is the JK Dana 30 really even a 30? The JK Dana 44 is a Dana 44 in name only.

Yep, they are.

The JK front and TJ Rubicon front D44's, are true D44's- they just have D30 outers. The center section and R&P are true D44.

The Grand Cherokee rear D44A is it's own animal, with internals not being interchangable.

You can easily go with 4.88's with 35's. Is it a stick or auto? Here is a regearing chart (not mine) that may help gear selection:

I received my 'new' (to me) Throttle Valve cable las week, since I have to go out and watch my mom for a while this afternoon, I'm taking advantage of the heated garage at dads place, to drop the skids and install the cable.

Hopefully it helps the hard shifting. (I broke the cable end on the original one, trying to adjust it in the cold)
Right now it 'slams' into drive. But since the TV cable is jerry rigged right now, I can't adjust it at all.
