What did you do to your Expo Jeep today?

Spent today working on my CJ8... Stepped outside of the shop for a break and smelled...snow! ACK! I'm sure not ready for THAT yet! And of course it will since I will be in the field the next 20-30 days! lol!

This is what happens when you're away from your Jeep and when you come home to it you just abuse it then put it away for another 9 to 12 months.

Did some welding.

I don't plan on going much bigger than 285s, the rear tire swing out is made to accommodate 37s or 40s or something like that. The stock 32" sat up too high so I wanted to lower it. Chopped some of the carrier plate, built a ghetto fab'd plate and welded it to the existing carrier plate. Looks ghetto, but you'll never see it.

I also wanted a way to attach my rear cargo carrier. I used the existing receiver, but when I have stuff on the carrier I can't open the tail gate without the tire hitting all the crap on the carrier. So, I wanted to move the carrier up and onto the swing arm. But I wanted something low key and removable. So I made a receiver tube and welded it to the swing arm, welded a set screw to keep things tight. Did some more work with the plasma cutter, welded on a piece of 2.5" receiver tube, and was done.

I have a lightweight aluminum carrier I typically use, that one was just what I had laying around to make sure it all worked. The nice thing is I can pull a pin and take everything off. The one that is built for this bumper is more if a permanent install with u-bolts etc. Everything is getting a coat of POR-15 and drying right now, then will get a coat of rustoleum textured black which matches the powdercoating on the bumper.

Nice. How does the table on the swing arm mount? I have the trailgater table, after seeing table on the swing arm now I have ideas of a 2nd level shelf to compliment. I could make something drop in the receiver tube.

I made a kitchen in preperation for my 3-week solo trip to Baja.

Picked up some Tarpon Kayak grab handles from the local Austin Kayak shop for 10 bucks for the rear. Very similar to the Mastercraft ones i have up front.(no pics)

Installed the Boston Acoustics Speakers for a Challenger in place of the Infinitys. A little better sound, little cleaner on the midrange, can go near max before it breaks up. Not a bad upgrade for 100 bucks. Pretty much plug and play, you have to cut a notch on the plastic grilles for the rear sound bar. A dremel makes quick short work. Took about 30mins to swap everything out. The drivers side front took longer because the Ravelco cutoff switch prevents me from pulling the dash all the way out so to get the speaker to drop out. Had to do some thinking on that one to get it out. Put polyfill in the boxes while I was in there along with some peal and seal sound deadening.

Wiring up my switches. Running everything back to a blue-sea fuse block with relays. Ghetto sPOD.
