What did you do to your Expo Jeep today?

During fill ups I tried changing the angle of the filler, slowing the fuel flow as I neared a full tank, and using different gas pumps all with no luck.

Slowing the fuel flow as the tank neared capacity seemed to provide the best results but not every time. There was still a fairly consistent spit back even when feathering the last few litres of fuel. Replacing the fuel filler tube seems to be a permanent fix to the problem.

I though I lucked out and avoided this problem given most JKs seem to experience this issue well before 6 years has elapsed.

Sorry for chiming in so late.. I just read this posting. I assume you are referring to the volcano of fuel you get when filling your gas tank. I bought my 07 used and discovered this unfortunate occurrence shortly after purchase. I brought it to the dealership and they fixed for free as there must be a recall on it that is not advertised. This is a HAZMAT situation and Jeep is responsible for remedies.

3M makes some stuff like fluid film that works very well and dries to a thick, waxy coating that doesn't come off of anything easily. I don't remember what they call the bulk version, but the CRC Marine "heavy duty metal protector" is the same stuff in spray can form.

Indeed. Old Faithful spewing right out of the fuel filler just at the point where the fuel dispenser should normally click off.

Your 07 was covered as part of TSB #14-003-12. 09 to 11 were not covered even though the exact same issue occurs. Kinda frustrating if you ask me.

Instead of pleading my case with the dealership I did the $50 CAD repair myself. I just don't have the time or patience to talk with the dealership unless it's really something I can't fix myself. Fiat/Chrysler really should have extended the TSB to include all affected Wranglers with the 3.8 L minivan engine.

No but it really should have been. Apparently service bulletin (#14-003-12) and the associated warranty extension only applies to 2007-2008 JKs. Considering the fact that the same issue affects 2009, 2010, and possibly 2011 JKs I'm not sure why Fiat/Chrysler didn't extend this bulletin to include any other model years exhibiting the same problem...other than to continue the typical money grabbing BS they are so well known for.

Were you able to install the new filler hose without dropping the tank? That's one of the things that has kept me from doing this sooner.

A couple weeks ago, I replaced the rear sway bar in the overland jeep...



I wanted to give it a good test run before saying much, and now that I've added a few more miles, I can say this new rear sway bar was a huge improvement in cutting down on body roll. I wrote up a quick blog post on it with a few more photos (here).

Just replaced my stock JKU rear sway bar with a Hellwig also. Frankly I'm surprised how much of an improvement it is! Great value and easy to install... wish I'd done it sooner.

Were you able to install the new filler hose without dropping the tank? That's one of the things that has kept me from doing this sooner.
For sure. No tank drop required. There are two hose clamps to loosen on the old fuel transfer tube and two corresponding hose clamps to tighten on the new fuel transfer tube. The new fuel transfer tube contains a flapper valve that's external to the fuel tank.

The replacement process took me about 15 minutes.

Great! Thank you! I need to do a tire rotation and an oil change real soon, so I think I'll add this to my "To Do" list.

One thing to remember when doing this repair...make sure your tank is quite empty to avoid spilling gasoline when the tube is removed.

I waited until my tank was a quarter full.

Replaced a damaged shock that pressed up against the frame in a full flex. Also installed some brackets to push the shocks out more on the bottom so that won't ever happen again.

You can see the bottom of the shock body is marks on the body up further is where it made contact to the frame.
