What Half-Ton Truck & Why

Drove a ton of trucks this week

Some were junk, most were under optioned, and most were over priced

I ended up in a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTZ / Z71 4x4, with the 5.3L......Midnight Edition as well

Brand new tires, sunroof, power sliding rear window, spray in bedliner. Loaded

Nice, I think you will be happy.

After repeated issues with my mega cab, and Ram not wanting to fix them I ditched it and went back to a half ton. I’ve been very happy over the last 7K.

That year Silverado in midnight trim is one of the best looking trucks on the road. I hope it treats you well

One of the last nice looking GM trucks before they turned the front end into a giant carp.

Nice choice. I do like that generation of GM truck as well.

I can still never get past the square wheel wells, but rest of the truck looks nice. Hope it treats you better than the F150.

Thats a departure from what you were looking into originally. Was there something in particular that put you in the drivers seat of a new Chevy?

I have a Ram Rebel right now, for a rental

With the 5.7L Hemi, I am getting a solid 17.5-18 mpg

Power isn't as good as the 3.5L Eco, but it rides great and the motor sounds great with the factory exhaust

I'm bumping this up, due to a recent interest in the Ram Rebel trucks.....I know

I like the 5.7L V8 and thr 3.92 gears with the 8 or 10 speed trans

I think I previously shied away from looking more seriously at the Rebel trucks, because I did NOT want to factory air ride suspension and did NOT want to spend 2k on an air ride delete kit

Anyway, it has come to my attention that not all Rebel trucks had the air ride suspension? True? Was it an option for certain years?

Other than looking on the dash for a ride height adjustment button(s) how else can I tell? What will the factory window say, if anything?

that is correct. I had a 2019 or 2020. I think a 2020. The new body style. I ordered mine without the air suspension exactly because I did not want to deal with it and the failures that had in the cold weather.

I forget exactly, but I’m sure if you look underneath you’ll see regular coils instead of airbags.

So is a normal 5.7L V8 available or just the eTorque 5.7L V8?

What year did the eTorque appear?

I just want a plain jane 5.7L V8......the eTorque seems overly complicated

I had two Dodge Dakota trucks before going full size

Now after owning four full size trucks, I'm on the fence if I really still need a fullsize and wondering if I would be able to manage with a mid sized truck

Prices are very similar

Do ALL Rebel trucks have the air suspension?

Is/was it an option or a standard feature?

Would it be noted either which way on a window sticker?

As Expo's resident "Mid Size Evangelical", I will chime in here to say:

Prices are similar, and so are specs - I've shared this before but the differences in payloads can sometimes be a scant couple hundred pounds. In some cases, there are full size 1/2 tons with lower payload than mid-sized trucks. But they always weigh about a thousand pounds more than the mid-size trucks, not to mention the width of the modern mid-size is more close to the older full-sized trucks where as the newer full sized trucks are very obese. If you do a lot of off camber/off road stuff, these weight and dimensional differences may matter.

And, since this "second gen" of mid-size trucks has been around for a while, you may get a good deal on a gently used mid-size.

As far as know the 4th gen trucks came with air suspension the 5th gen (2019 and up) can be ordered with traditional coils
