Have you thought of using a broker? You could buy one without the locker and ad one later. ARB or salvage yard.

..and yes there are alot of PreRunners!!!

I know how things go for me, and between finances and convincing the wife, if I don't get one with a locker in it up front, I doubt it would ever get one.

PreRunners....sheesh. They look just the same, and not every ad says it is a 'Runner up front. So you see an ad, see a good price, then you see the interior pics....cupholders where the t-case shifter should be.

Hey there Fat Man...

I'm over here in Memphis and did a quick autotrader.com search and found a DC Tacoma 4x4 in Jonesboro. Not a TRD but thought it might interest you just the same.

Here is a Private Seller listing in Kansas.2002 DC Tacoma 4x4 TRD

Here is a 2004 DC Tacoma 4x4 TRD in Milan, TN.

Here is 2002 DC Tacoma 4x4 TRD in Marion, IL.

Here is 2003 DC Tacoma 4x4 TRD in Owensboro, KY.

Here is 2004 DC Tacoma 4x4 TRD in Benton, AR.

Man, thanks for taking the time to do that!

There are some nice trucks there (save for private seller, it was no longer listed) and some decent prices.

Several of those trucks had higher mileage than I am wanting. So I think that has been the story. I am looking for that balance between low price and low mileage.

The more stuff I see, the better I am feeling about the one that, if all is as advertised, will be in my driveway by next week.

I will report back with how things go.

~70K miles isn't hardly broke in. A hair under 18K$ might be a bit much, but if you're trading or can talk them down, that non-TRD Dcab in Jonesboro would be a great platform.

Yes it does not have the elocker but the 3rd member is stronger than the elocker 3rd, and you'd be amazed what it's possible to do with open diffs...it's kinda like having front suspension on your mountain bike and then going back to rigid. Really gets you practiced at picking and holding good lines, all sorts of things. I'm still running open...for now :sombrero:.

No stranger to open diffs here. It is all I have ever had. Wanting to expand my capabilities.

Just 'cause I may end up with a locker does not mean I will use it every I go off-road. Famous last words, I am sure....

I have my rear locker engaged almost all the time off highway, if I'm in 4-low. My reasoning is that with a full spool locker (be that a Toyota e-locker, Air Locker, Lincoln locker) each axle will get exactly half the torque. An open diff always gives one wheel 100% of the torque. Obviously turning on pavement or slickrock requires opening the diff, but on dirt, mud, etc. I believe it's better to leave the rear locked all the time.

The garage has a new occupant. :truck: :wings:

Haven't had time to upload any pics. If I can get to it before dark tonight, I will post 'em up.

I am very impressed with the truck. Now, if I can just get some mods going!

I do have my Optima that I took out of the Jeep....so, 1 mod down!

2004 Silver DC Taco with TRD. I can't say enough good about this vehicle. It just keeps on impressing me. And I haven't even had it off road yet!

Yes, the one from E-Bay...but not at the price the auction ended at. That was some kid who signed up right before they bid. The dealer didn't even take it serious.

I got it for $19,500. For the low miles and condition (like new) I think that was a decent price from what I have seen. I am sure there may be cheaper ones out there, but not that I was able to find.

Got a lot more on trade in than I was expecting, too, so that really was nice.

It was a smooth transaction all around. People were very nice. I just wish the dealers locally treated their customers like these folks.

I thought it was a great excuse for a weekend in Chicago. My wife and I really had fun getting away.

Do I recommend everyone drive 600 miles to buy a car? No.

But for a couple of folks that love to travel and were looking for a weekend away (dropped kiddo with the g'parents) it was the perfect excuse.

Chicago is a cool city, too. Definitely falls under the 'great place to visit but wouldn't wanna live there' category...but it IS a great place to visit....enough so I may try to go back some time I have more than a weekend to spend.
