What is the "Limited" package for DC Tacos?

I'm looking at 3 different 2002 DC Tacos right now. One is a SR5 TRD 4wd DC, the others are “Limited” TRD 4wd DCs. The features list on all look pretty much the same. Nothing in the pics looks different except the limited’s are lifted (aftermarket lift). The guy at the lot tried to tell me that all DC tacos are “limited”. What is the “limited” package and how can I tell if the truck I am looking at really is a “limited”?

This is just a trim level upgrade over SR5, not a big difference otherwise that I know of.

The easy way to tell is by looking at the seats. SR5 seats are less supportive, the Limited seats have more lumbar support and are easy to spot.

Also, the Limited version will have small chrome "Limited" emblems on the cab by the back doors.

IMO, the seats are a big upgrade over the SR5... I had a 2003 SR5 and hated the seats!

Coming from '87 fj60 with blown out seats, anything will be an improvement!

I don't care about the limited much, just the TRD. The truck seems to be priced ok, but I don't really know. My concern is that the lot has listed them as "Limited" when their not. But I can't tell from the pics and he couldn't really answer my question about what the limited package was. I've seen enough Tacos listed as TRD with no TRD badges to be wary of these dealer claims, especially when listing it as such ups the price you come back with on KBB.

From what I could tell, the only difference (physical) I could see was a moonroof. All of the Limited's I've seen had it, so I'm guessing it came standard. I also assume that all Limiteds came standard with 16" wheels, but seems like most of the SR5 DC's came with 16" wheels and brakes anyway.

Personally, I don't think it's worth paying more for a moonroof. Even getting a TRD package is not worth it if you're going to be lifting anyway. Only option I'd look for is an e-locker.

The limited package includes:

Limited seats (Lumbar and better side support)
Leather steering wheel cover
Leather shift knob (Ext. Cab only)
Limited emblems
Chrome Side Mirrors

I personally bought a limited driver's seat and it's night and day comfort on the long drives. However, i'm sure you could also get a much nicer replacement if you were looking for one. I'd say the only worthwhile thing about the package is the seats, and probably not worth the price of the package all together.

When I bought my 2003 SR5 TRD I was looking at a limited model as well. As far as I remember the only difference were the color keyed fenders, more chrome and the electronic push button transfer case vs the manual lever. I actually prefer the lever type transfer case and less chrome. Oh yeah they did have slightly better seats with electronic lumbar support.

So from what you guys are saying this truck is not a limited since it has black fender flares and non chrome mirrors?

I agree on not needing the package, the only thing I'm after is the E-locker/ TRD package, but I want to be sure I know what they are selling since they don't seem to

The Autocheck says that it is a Limited. It should say "Limited" or SR5 on the tail gate. Might say it on the side (on the pic), but I can't make it out. The silver/gold Limited I saw yesterday did have color-keyed flares, though. Look at THIS Limited on ebay. HERE is another.

How much are they asking for that truck?

I have an '01 Limited. The push button stuff is an option, as is the moonroof. It is mostly an interior upgrade pkg, seats, leather, lighted mirror. And of course the matching fender flares and fancy mirrors. The seats are the best feature, they hold you in place and can be used for days without fatigue. The chrome mirrors are the worst feature, they reflect the headlights behind you into your eyes. According to kbb.com it is a desirable feature, so expect to pay extra.

$19,988.

That seems high. What's the mileage?

79,000 miles. I thought it was high too. They have a silver one, identical to this one with 72,000 miles for $18,988. I'm not thrilled with the prices but I like the mileage and it's been hard to find the models I want with the TRD package. I probably won't have my fj60 sold in time to pick either of these up anyway.

I'm no Toyota-trim expert, but aren't there two (or more) variations on the "Limited" trim? I thought I remember seeing two different options, one with the painted flares and bumpers, and the other without.

I'd try to find one from a private seller. Tacoma's and 4Runners are higher priced here, and at the dealerships, they go for $19-23k. The same vehicle would be listed for $16-18k on a local classifieds (autotrader, local online classified, craigslist, etc.). If you cannot find any in your area (which I think you'd have an easier time in your area than mine), I'd even hop on a plane to buy one out of state.
