What kinda highway MPG's you getting with your full sized rig?

Just drove an '08 GMC 3/4-ton Duramax down and back to San Felipe, Baja. Bed was loaded with furnishings and tools for a casita project...hard tonneau cap on the truck. Best was about 18.5. :sombrero:

There must be something wrong with my truck but I cannot figure it out!!!!!

2006 F250 powerstroke, studded, egr delete, 4 inch dual exhaust no cats, K&N cold air, airdog II, powermaxx turbo, full tune, 6 inch lift, 37s......... 10 mpg CITY!!!!! ******!!!!! But is does around 450-470 rwph and 800+ ft torque.

2005 Rubicon LJ, modded, 6 inch lift 35's..... 11 mpg city

Just for comparison sake, its not a full size but my 2003 BMW M5 does around 14 mpg city, 23 highway

'79 Ford Bronco with a carbureted 400, Np435 trans (non-OD), 4.56 gears, and 35-12.50-15 BFG ATs.

9 to 9.5 mpg all-around (10 to 10.5 mpg if it's level highway).

That's a nice old-school built rig, and sounds like very honest numbers.

My not built Scout often got 9 mpg city.

Best of 23 in my K2500. 235/85/16 tires probably about 6700lbs with me, dog, tools and camper top on. Keeping it below 65mph is the best thing for mileage with my truck.

First Road Trip in my "New to me" Suburban

I just got home from my first 600 mile round trip road trip in my new to me future expo vehicle. It is stock, before the trip I changed the oil/filter, plugs, air filter, cap and rotor and the cam sensor. Only to find out it needs a MAF sensor, so my MPG of 15.5MPG may increase a little oncethe MAF is changed. Not bad though for a 97 K1500 with 208K on the OD.

02 F150 7700 Series, 5.4 engine, auto trans, 3.73 gears, 33" (LT255/85R16) BFG Mud Terrain tread, 8200 pounds fully equipped for overland travel, Flip-Pac roof sits about a foot above the cab. Highway at 65-70 = 13 mpg, 4-wheel drive high range on 10 mph dirt = 9 mpg.

Our '05 GMC Sierra 1500 crew cab shortbed 2wd w/5.3L ranges between 13 towing to 20 highway.

The Ramcharger I just purchased gets about 8.

My '77 Dodge W300, 360, 4sp, full-time 4wd with 4.88 axles and a walk-in service body made about 3 mpg highway no matter how I drove it...then it was stolen.

My comparisons are against my Mitsubishi Mighty Max turbo 2.6l gasser getting about 16, and a NA 2.6l Dodge Raider that varied between 14 - 20 depending upon season.

my 1996 F150, 5.0 v8, 31" tires, catback exhaust, K&N CAI, around 13.5 mpg mixed driving, been as low as 12.1 mixed and up around 14.2 on a good day

I just got 17mpg in 130miles of rolling terrain at 65mph yesterday. I usually get 15 in rolling terrain and 17 on flat.

I think you've convinced me to look at a younger truck. A bone dry '02 PS with low mileage in New Mexico just slipped through my hands and I'm not so sure another one will be available when I'm in the country to buy it or when I need it (i.e, when I take delivery of my camper). I opened up my search criteria to include up to 2008 MY gassers. Lotsa good fleet style trucks out there with enough creature comforts to make for a great dedicated weekend / summer vacation truck camper. Although I anticipate my gas mileage will drop to around 10 mpg with a 2200 lb camper in the back, the numers at the pump will only hurt until every night when I don't have to check into a hotel. At least that's the rationalization I'm using to give up on finding a 7.3 PS SC/LB in excellent-good shape.

You could buy a Cummins and possibly get better mileage. It would open up more possibilities for you.
