Thanks everyone for the help/kind words here!

x2. And I happen to know a guy with a couple complete long-block 3FE's sitting on pallets ;)

Of course get your checkbook out and I could send you home with a 1HZ too

Fwiw there is an H55F on KSL right now, no affiliation.

I see the H55F on KSL...Not a bad deal either.....I just missed one on KSL last summer for $150 that most likely need to be rebuild. I keep kicking myself on that one.

You guys got me thinking about looking into doing the 3FE conversion......But the fix is just temporary until the SB 327 goes in. I will see what i can find...But most likely be rebuilding the head just to get by for a few years until I'm ready for the other motor. Plus....I trying to build this sweet rig very nice to provide that a cheap build still can be done.

If you do a leakdown test, you will know for sure. Pressurize the cylinder via the spark plug hole on the compression cycle on that cylinder and if air comes out the exhaust or intake, you have a bad valve, if it blows out your dipstick tube or oil fill hole, you have a bad piston (or rings). You could also run a bore scope in there to see for yourself.

If I were you, I'd try to find a fuel injection system and head from a 3FE (which there should be quite a few out there from clunkers) and build up a 2FE.

Thanks Dave.....I will try this and report back. We couldn't find our bore scope light....I will bring the 60 back to the shop on Monday for more fun.

Nice find Nic! What a steal for the miles and clean interior!

Get used to the envious looks you'll get... Lemme know when you get that thing running right and we'll do 60 owner's Father 'n Daughter run. Maybe we'll let Jonathan & Roger ride shotgun with us...

:victory:

.

No joke KC......I gotta keep all the windows up or i will have tons of women/cruiser lovers trying to take me over!

My plan is to have her up and running (healthy) for a local Father's day 60 run with you if we can work something out.

With the number of guys doing SBC conversions 2F engines are pretty easy to find. You might shop around and find a decent one for cheap or free.
Last night at our TLCA club meeting somebody gave one to another member just to get it out of his garage. If you plan on a V8 conversion any way it might be better than throwing money at the one you have.

Right on. I will for sure be checking into this as well.

:)

As much as I think gearing your truck is a great idea, I love your new rig.

I need to locate some manuals for the thing.
Either D/L the FSM's (linked on 'Mud) or buy them from Toyota of America. Your local dealer will pay the same price for them as you will. Figure about $100 for the set, and worth every penny.

Has it had the fuel tank and seat belt recalls done?

Mud has taken real good care of me in the manual department.

On the recalls...I need to check...I need to find that website that you enter your VIN....Or just call the stealership.

Thanks for the heads up on the recalls......forgot about those!

You should buy buy my 05 Tacoma's 4.0 V6, 5 speed auto box and transfer case for your rig! PLENTY of power and great MPG to boot. Only 80K dealer serviced miles and UBER inexpensive!!! Comes with ECU and wire harness, btw...

Funny you ask.....I have been thinking about that for about month....buying your motor setup.....

Not many people have done the swap.....

At a good price....i'll be over with a truck and trailer to take it way.....

PM on the way...

Oh man - I would love to see that drivetrain live on. It is a really nice setup. If I had the time and the mad skills, and my motor wasn't doing just fine, I'd put it in my Cruiser.

PM replied to!

A 4.0 would be super neat in a 60. Dealing with the axles could be more of a pain than the actual motor setup but its totally doable. Rear axle could be a centered V6 8" or Tacoma 8.4", better yet a custom centered LC 9.5". Likewise on the front, a flipped housing would do the trick.

Carefully cut a FF's ends off, carefully cut the center out of the SF housing. End up with a FF housing with a centered diff and an inspection cover.
Not that I've thought about this.

Much.

OK, a lot. :Wow1:

:D

You would really need two FF's to cannibalize in order to get it centered at the width you'd want. The more common way is to use PU outers SF but not c-clip.

The other option would be to try and find a way to mate the LC split-case to the Taco trans. Doable at some cost. The easiest way would be to go from the the Taco trans to a Toy reduction box using Marlin's parts. Then from the Toybox unit back to the LC Split case.

4.0 1GR-FE - No go!

This is my first cruiser.....I want to enjoy her!

The 4.0 1GR-FE swap looks to be more over my head then i want to take on. Sure i could do. I have all the tools and shop space to take on a project like this. But changing over the axles, all the custom brackets, drive train, etc...

Long story short. I love my wife/kids/marriage and just want to keep things simple.

Hmmm, so what's it going to be then, top-end rebuild, or straight to the SBC? My 2F is getting pretty tired with 290,000 on it, and I'm having a hard time deciding myself, between freshening her up, and swapping in the SBC...
