snip.....
you can do super arched springs and long shackles in an SUA configuration but it makes little sense in the end.
There is something hidden here that would appeal more to a desert racer/chaser than to a crawler. By using a spring with a lot of arch you can get a lot of up-travel without risking the spring going flat or into negative arch. By doing that the spring works and lives a longer & happier life. I know of a couple Toyota Mini-trucks set up for desert chase/pre-run use that have been converted from SOA to SUA just for this reason. One is Nikki's (sp?) from Total Chaos. A good friend of mine insists on never taking a leaf spring to less that 1" of remaining arch when at the metal to metal limits.

I got pics of mine with SOA, flat springs and 33's. It looks pretty stupid IMO. I also have pics of it with flat springs and 35's, which I think looks best. And now I'm running SOA with OME heavies and it is pretty tall. Clears 37's pretty well though.

I'll dig up the pics and post 'em.

Love to see the pictures!

15.5 mpg with 300 mile plus range

She is running like a spring chicken!

The first tank of gas i got 15.5 mpg with 300 mile plus range. This is great! It was a freeway/city driving mix. Most likely get 16-17 mpg freeway only...

I do need to do a test on how many miles i do get out of a tank.....time to pack the jerry can for this one.

With getting this good of a mpg......its going to be hard to put bigger tires on.....we will see....

Keep you guys posted on the mpg.

I have been stocking up on the POR-15 products.....as it is time to take care of the rust issue. Need to find a stock drivers side front fender so i can cut out my rusty hole and patch in the new fender piece.

All is good in the Willman camp!

4.10s are SO easy that sounds the perfect solution for a slightly taller tire :) OMEs (even the leafs) are awesome.

And bye bye to 15.5 mpg ;)

I know!!!

I have been thinking about just keeping her stock just for that reason. Sell off my 33x10.5's for some 30x9.5's and call it good for a while.....but it sure would have better off road performance with the lift and tires.

It will be stock for a little while.....I will enjoy the good gas mileage until then.

Sorry this took so long.

The setup here is stock height springs, SOA, with 4+ shackles (not sure how much longer they are than stock). Tires are 33x10.50.

When I went 33's I just swapped the diffs for FJ62 4.11 diffs... now happy as a clam with speedo reading correctly. MPG's were not affected (but I have a 12HT diesel).

Yeah, it doesn't look that bad, but this looks a lot better. My favorite stance for a 60/62 is soa with flat springs and 35's.

I scored a ARB full length rack on our local forsale pages (KSL) for a good deal.

I also got the windows tinted for a great deal for $160 here at a local shop. I went 50 in the front and 18 in the back. I like it...its not too dark...

Life is Good!
