Fiat Chrysler CEO Sergio Machionne and Jeep boss Michael Manley recently announced a five year plan for the Jeep brand. Key points:

-- The Wrangler will be completely redesigned for mid-2017
-- A new model, smaller than the Cherokee and larger than the Renegade, will be introduced in 2016
-- The next generation of the Grand Cherokee will be introduced in late 2017.
-- The Grand Wagoneer, with three rows of seats, will appear in 2018.

So two of Jeep's best selling vehicles (Wrangler and Grand Cherokee) will be significantly redesigned in the next three years.

No announcements about the design or mechanicals for the new Wrangler were made at the press conference. So there's plenty of time for baseless speculation about independent front suspension and "they can take my Wrangler when they pry it from my cold, dead fingers" posts.

The Wrangler was on a 10 year refresh cycle, but a few years ago Chrysler said that they were going to wait until 2018 for the Wrangler due to continued high sales, so this isn't much news. I would like a full sized SUV with three rows of seats in the future (like a Tahoe or Suburban sized). I think that could make a good extended overland platform.

Cross every finger and toe for a diesel option.

(I know some people don't want it, so that's why I said make it an option)

A "complete redesign" of the Wrangler could make the long-rumored pickup version a reality. Would you prefer a J8-style two door with integrated bed, or the AEV four door style pickup?

In the power plant department, maybe North America will finally get a diesel option. Would you prefer the V6 diesel used in the Grand Cherokee, or the four cylinder diesel used in Jeep export models? Or would a smaller turbo gas engine, similar to Ford's Ecoboost models, be a better choice? Ford's 2.3L turbo 4 produces more power and torque at lower rpm than the gas V6 in today's Wrangler.
