I'm just catching this, but did the force of the wreck drive the roof rack forward a foot? Is that normal!? Wouldn't that be very dangerous with a fully loaded rack?
Great to hear it cranked up! I guess it will make a very good parts vehicle.
It is a known issue on all the Land Rover roof racks of that style (gutter mount). On heavy use vehicles they are secured with locating support bars that tie into the front and back of the car to avoid this exact behavior. Unfortunately just how it is. Not uncommon to have a hard braking event or an accident literally throw the entire rack forward off the car.
To Town Diver: Very glad to hear the engine is good! Looks like you will have an excellent parts resource to transfer things over to, and hopefully a good insurance check.
