I think something like this is what you are going to want:

525-3-01_660_alt.jpg

It is 14" tall 12" deep and 24" long, I bet we could fit 3 batteries in there, cut a vent hole into it, section it into the side of your van nice and pretty like having it mounted hard into the frame with out a whole lot of trouble.

The other good part about it, it locks so no one can get in there and mess with em.

So do you cut a hole in the side of the van and stick it in there, or bolt it under the van to the frame?

Rv' ers seem to love this product for roof ventilation.

Back in 2001, I installed a product very similar to this in my fiberglass roof:

It was nice because it only required a 4 inch round hole, and required no wiring and would run 24/7. I cooked inside plenty with it without CO poisoning, but it really does not move enough air.

After about 5 years it began to make clicking noises when cold out.

Since then I have added 2 counter rotating 12 volt 4.75 inch computer case 'muffin' fans. One of them has a variable speed controller, and when on high both together move over 150 CFM. I can cook pasta inside without fogging the windows.

I've turned into a Muffin fan Nazi, and can keep the interior at or below ambient temps in full summer sunlight as long as I use my window shades.

Have a look under your van, and see if there is room along the frame to mount a battery tray. Keep in mind you can mount AGM batteries on their side.

It'd be cool if I could like, cut out part of the side of the van and install the battery box like they are on RVs, as an extension of the body, you know?

Nick has already agreed to help me with a lot, so whatever is simplest is going to be best. I know he's really busy with his build and life so I don't want to overburden him or ask too much.

I went out to check on the paint and there is all this weird dust all over the place from the spray paint. Weird.

I've got to get some insulation in there to reduce some vibration so I can go to the DMV Tuesday. I just realized it's going to take 6+ weeks to get my hard copy license and registration stuff.

Tomorrow I think I will try and get the entire roof insulated, few things buttoned up. DMV on Tuesday, the DMV here is nuts.

The idea with the box is that we would be cutting out the side of the van below the floor and fitting it there trying to maintain as much ground clearence as possible.

I joined AAA, mostly so I could avoid the DMV for most everything.

Make an appt for the DMV and do not be late.

The next appointment here is for April 13th. They accept walk ins so I will go early in the AM and spend the day there to get my stuff done. I have no life anyway.

I can't figure out what I need on this out of state vehicle registration form for signatures. I bought it from a licensed dealer, do I need to fax it to them for a signature? I also need to figure out if I need to be smogged first.

I guess I should call the DMV tomorrow. Speaking of AAA I have to add roadside assistance to my insurance.

That'd be wicked. I don't know what your life is like there with school and work and stuff but I can spend as long as we need to get stuff done so you're not overburdened with my things, like I said, I don't want to weigh you down and tie up your time and such.

But I am super psyched at the opportunity to hopefully learn some welding and metal working.

Do not goto DMV without all your ducks in a row or you will just waste a day, and get enraged at each and every aspect of everything for ever after.

And trust me, It's no fun here in the ever after.:violent-smiley-031:

I understand your ducks are scattered, but go online and whip those demented little willy nilly bastards into shape:

Yeah, I can't make heads or tails of the DMVs website, I'll call tomorrow and get a list of the crap I need to register my van. Definitely don't want to go through DMV hell and not get my stuff done!

You'll likely be on hold for hours, then talk to someone who does not know the answers, who will then transfer you to someone who will read to you directly from the website you cannot make heads or tails of.

My guess is that by Tuesday night, you'll be planning on moving out of state.

Best Post Yet....John E...!

Keep going my friend!....:friday:

Nothing passive aggressive about it. I seriously wonder how any of us who have tried repeatedly to help you could have gotten any ideas about what it is you're trying to do. You've changed your plans, designs, and ideas in just about every post you put up asking for help. Here's a free tip, when you don't know anything, don't be quite so disdainful towards the people attempting to help you.

You ask for specific advice and then ***** about it when you get it, you buy tools and materials and then take them back cause you changed your mind, you post a lot of crap about your environmental concerns and toxic materials and then you decide to ignore your own concerns cause it's too much trouble.

Only thing that's "passive aggressive" about this thread is your requests for help and repeated efforts to dismiss the help and advice given to you.

Good luck with your van.

California is nice, but there is a lot of wacky regulation here. I don't think the West coast is for me though.

DMVs suck everywhere though, lol.
